Hi ladies

Thank you so much for your kind replies last week. We have just found out that mum actually has PPC and not ovarian cancer......she has to have second line chemo as there are specks like rice grain on her peritoneum. They are giving her carboplatin and gemcitabine. Has anyone had this regime before? She is still on the trial and they are giving her carbo on day one and gemcitabine on day 8 then a week off for 18 weeks. Any advice would be so appreciated. I have had a good cry but I know it is good news really as it hasn't gone anywhere else and all organs are clear, thank The Lord. I just hate to see her go through this again. I hate to see her weak. Thanks again.

I had that regime for my first recurrence. It wasnt really bad to be honest. Your Mum will get Carbo and Gem and then Gem again on day eight. Just watch out for the usual constipation, plenty prunes and movicol. My hair did thin but then had a family tragedy in the middle so stress could have cause the loss as well. But it did go fairly okay. The Gem can lower the white cell count so they might counteract that with an injection or leave the treatment day go. I think maybe one bad day and you sleep through most of the evening and next day feel reasonably okay again. I hope that helps, if the anti nausea isnt strong enough ask for a change. There is always something better, they start you on the least one which for me was Motillium and it never worked. Hope all will go fairly okay and do let us know how it is going for you both. I know its hard to see your Mum going through this again but its not the worst news. It hasnt spread and it can be kept under control like this for some time after so dont worry

Like Suzuki, I had this for my first recurrence ( I have PPC like your Mum). I didn't find it too bad either, and I didn't loose my hair although again it did thin a bit. I would echo Suzuki's advice to be wary of the constipation and to take the anti emetics to avoid sickness.

I finished this round of treatment in early June and am now on Avastin every 3 weeks. Thankfully, when I saw the Consultant yesterday, she told me my most recent scan was much improved and my CA125 has gone down to 8. Obviously I'm really pleased and looking forward to a good summer. I hope your Mum doesn't find this regime too gruelling and wish her well.

Thank you ladies so much. I will show mum your replies and hopefully this will help her. Just scary having to go through it all again and mess up her summer again. But like you said it could have been worse so we are thankful. Love to you. Louise x
