Juicing and very healthy eating

Any one watching Channel 5 tonight (Wednesday, 10th July ) about juicing and changing diet. Anyone have any opinions as to if there would be benefits to us oc victims. Would the doctors go along with the health benefits or are the medical profession so bogged down in chemicals and drugs?

Hi, I have not seen the program but I have taped it and will be watching it at some point. Re juicing and healthy eating I strongly believe it helps. My husband bought me a juicing machine last year which is great. I also eat lots of fruit and veg. I don't eat read meat and limit cheese to once a week. I only drink de cafe coffee and fruit teas , although I do have two cups of normal tea first thing in the morning.

I keep my weight to approximate 8.12 which at 5 ft 1 inch is about normal or so the hospital say it is. I think it helps eating a healthy diet as when I went through chemo last year I still managed to work full time and only had time off when I had my de bulking operation. I have been tumour free for 7 months now and feel great and have plenty of energy. I can't Speak for everyone but for me a healthy diet with lots of fruit and veg both raw and juiced works.

I have to confess I do have a glass of wine in the evening but then it is made of fruit so I tell myself it's okay.

I loved Bab's comment. I think it's important to try to keep healthy and have a balanced diet. My homeopath suggested fruit juicing is high in sugars and low in starch so veg juicing would be a more sensible option.

I should cut down on meat as I know a healthy portion is about the size of your palm. Weight control is always good for health as is exercise. Fish is good and we should cut down on fatty foods such as cheese and butter.

It's brilliant advice and if you can do this so much the better. I for one enjoy good food and wine. I'm a little overweight, I eat the wrong combinations, but I'm happy. I rather think it's a balance between what you feel does you good and not worrying about failing to achieve the 'best model'.

I love Bab's advice on a glass of wine. A girl after my own heart. xxxx

Yes thanks for you response. A good programme and food for thought (pardon the pun). I think I will be buying a juicing machine and giving it a go but along side other healthy foods and of course chemo, starting a new one soon so I guess everything is worth a try.

I just feel better with a diet which has lots of fruit and veg. I also think of my teeth so avoid sweets. Everyone is different but I eat to feel good, not because it looks good. X x

I've not seen the programme but bought a juicer when I started chemo...its a good way to get the volume of greens, cruciferous veg. etc that my body needed at that time. I still use it now though not every day. If I go more than 3 days without a concoction I do notice a change in digestion and stamina.

A word of caution to novice juicers though; remember to think of the calories (3 apples, 2 pears and a bunch of grapes has a LOT of calories but won't cause you to feel full like actually eating that volume of fruit would) and take care with your teeth; although a healthy food there can be a lot of fruit sugar and acid involved, depending on what you chose to juice. Carrots, cucumber and the like are good 'carriers' to dilute your bunch of watercress or beetroot in.
