Having removed my foot firmly from my mouth i hope the following little ditty amuses or at least doesnt offend, it sums up my time in Saudi Arabia many moons ago.......
SOMEWHERE IN THE ARABIAN DESERT
WHERE THE SUN IS LIKE A CURSE
AND EVERYDAY IS FOLLOWED
BY ONE THATS SLIGHTLY WORSE
WHERE THE DUST AND FLIES ARE THICKER
THAN THE ENDLESS DESERT SAND
JUST ONE OF THE MANY TORTURES
OF THIS HOT AND HUMID LAND
SOMEWHERE NEAR THE GULF OF PERSIA
WHERE A WOMAN IS NEVER SEEN
WHERE THE SKIES ARE NEVER CLOUDY
AND THE GRASS IS NEVER GREEN
WHERE THE DRINKING WATER IS COLOURED
LIKE THE DRAINAGE FROM THE SINK
AND A MAN CANT DROWN HIS SORROWS
COS THERES NOT A BEER TO DRINK
SOMEWHERE NEAR THE TROPIC WATERS
WHERE THE NIGHTS ARE MADE FOR LOVE
THE MOON IS LIKE A SPOTLIGHT
AND THE STARS ALL GLEAM ABOVE
NOW ALL THAT GLEAM AND GLITTER
OF A LOVELY TROPIC NIGHT
IS MERELY A WASTE OF BEAUTY
COS THERES NOT A GIRL IN SIGHT
YOU CAN HAVE THIS ARAB COUNTRY
WHERE THE MAIL IS ALWAYS LATE
WHERE A CHRISTMAS CARD IN APRIL
IS CONSIDERED UP TO DATE
WHERE THE DONKEYS ARE ALL CRUMMY
AND THE CAMELS EVEN WORSE
AND I REALLY MUST BE CRAZY

This poem, all about Saudi Arabia, is of no relevance to women seeking advice and support on this site specifically addressing issues of ovarian cancer.
I agree it isnt, but IMO it is a light hearted thing which may, just may, make someone smile. Plus as far as i am aware the forum is for members to post something and not necessarily always ovarian cancer issues.
I am sure if i am wrong on this then others will have a similar view to yours .....we shall see.

Having just got back from hospital with Angie (another long day sitting and waiting, reading crappy magazines 12 months out of date, bored and fed up), this raised a much needed smile to both our faces. Thanks for sharing. Anything that raises a smile to Angie's face of late is very welcome.

Laughter is the best medicine, and we all need some. Well done.
I enjoyed your poem too, it definitely raised a smile. I particularly agree with Angie, we hear so much bad news, we all need a laugh. I feel the forum is to help each other in any way possible, and raising a smile does it every time.
Thanks for this comical poem - anything that brings a smile to our faces is welcome by me. Life is dealing some of us a bad hand right now and I loved it. It obviously didn't make us all titter but then if we all had the same sense of humour the world wouldn't be so interesting would it?
I have to say I was all ready to post on your previous blog - I was more than happy to share my experience. Surely if you had put the privacy thingy on it would have been a very interesting blog. Hope I don't get slapped down for this reply x
I guess at some point someone will raise the topic again...yeah i wish i had put the privacy thing in, but i guess it would still have been a sensitive/private subject, and not one that many would feel comfortable commenting/participating on.

I enjoyed your poem and it made me smile raising my endorphins which all helps in the battle.
I wonder perhaps if some of the members on the site aren't aware of the terrible time you and Christina are going through and the support you're providing for her at a time when it seems there are few options left.
Thanks for thinking of posting the poem to cheer us up. I think we rather need to return to Ovacome about a Users' Forum as this site has so many functions - for the women with advanced and incurable Ovarian Cancer, for women who are long-term survivors, for our husbands/partners and loved ones and for all our supporters. We all have different needs and access to different groups.
As I understand it Health Unlocked are redesigning the basic forum to make separate areas. I for one think this is a great idea.
For those that didnt think it appropriate to post this on the forum, well we all have our own opinions and clearly i didnt post to 'annoy or offend'.......as others have said often laughter is the best medicine, and sometimes its the only medicine.
For those that smiled.....i am glad to have contributed to that.
Well it seems as if the "Jury is Out" on this one... LOL.... it just highlights to me how different we all are, we should enjoy our differences...and like it has already been said it would be a boring world otherwise....love x G x
Made me smile and I need that right now. DD who so far has rarely complained, rarely got upset about all that has happened to her is really not coping with the idea of yet another laparoscopy in November ( nd concerned about what might be discovered and what that might mean). She is very fed up and just wants her life back - you can all relate to that I am sure. I'm finding it hard to see her like this - quiet and withdrawn. I find it tough anyway to watch my DD go through all of this, but I have usually managed to raise a smile from her, all be it a mere glimpse of one, until now. I am always there for her of course, but feel like I am walking on egg shells - she doesn't so much snap back, but she glares! Bless her. I love her to bits and I understand her anger about how unfair all of this is.
It takes time to absorb news you don't want and I know that I am always a bit prickly until I have sorted it all out in my own mind before I am approachable again!
Glad it made you smile....and as for the glares from DD etc, i recognise them from CHristina and all the egg shells i walk over, or probably crunch into the ground....
This is such a terrible illness and the effect on families and friends, let alone those that actually have it, is like a tidal wave....just spreads far and wide to everyone and effects everyone so much.
Like many humour gets me through most days and i grab at a smile whenever i can x
