Hi there

Over the last 4 years I've had 2 full courses of carboplatin/taxol and one on carboplatin /gemcitobin that's 18 in all. The last finished this Easter. The first two my CA was in single figures on completion and this time it was 63. No lasting side effects. I've also had 2 courses of other chemo the best result was on caelyx. I'm not sure if you have a particular reason for asking the questions but if I can help please say. Good wishes. Meryl

Hi There,

Since June 2013, I have had 6 treatments of Carbo/Taxol, then recurrence in 2012 only managed 2 carbo/taxol but continued with taxol, this year had 3 taxol and then 3 with cisplatin/taxol - glad to be finished and get life back to normal for a bit - OR A LONG TIME.!

Just wondering if you asking about 10 cycles in one regimen which seems unusual as 6 seems to be standard practice. Is it your first line and do you know if the dose is reduced per cycle and what effect has 10 had on your condition. Carboplatin is often used either as single agent or commonly combined with taxol, caelyx, gemcitibine. Love Paul xx

Hi, I had 18 weeks of carboplatin and paclitaxel, with no break in between as part of the icon 8 trial. I finished treatment Dec 12, and after scan in Jan 13, I have no evidence of disease!!!

My wife had 6 x taxol/carbo in 2011. Later 4 x taxol in the same year and later still in 2011/2012 she had 8 x gem/carbo. So a total of 10 Taxol & 14 Carbo overall. Good luck.

Diagnosed 3c, and i think you always keep the same 'diagnostic level', though in reality now unfortunately she is stage 4 plus. The best 'reaction' she had was with gem/carbo, but as you know everyone is different and what is good for one may not be good for someone else, though gem/carbo tends (as far as i can tell) to often work well, albeit quite a demanding regime.

Thanks for a reply I have faith in my oncologist. I actually think she is brilliant but my cancer is do rear and success on taxol/carboplatin has been fair at best

Hi Tennisgrl,

My guess is because you have a different cancer to the people on this forum that your treatment would be different ...but I have had carbo/taxol twice i.e. two courses of six..(twelve in

all) best wishes love x G x

Hi Tennisgrl,

I don't know what time it is where you live, but it is now 1:20am here ...so I should be in bed...it's comforting to know that other people are awake too.

Sending you best wishes love x G x :-)

Like a lot of people here, you've been through the mill. I didn't know it could be given once a week for 18 weeks. Presumably, the weekly dose is reduced? I don't know answers but I send you my heartfelt good wishes. X

I am currently doing the ICON8 clinical trial as mentioned by aliannie and have just had my 5th weekly treatment of 18. Yes, you get the same amount of the carboplatin and paclitaxel over the 18 weeks, but instead of the big dose once every 3 weeks you get a smaller dose every week. The theory is that the side effects are less by giving the smaller dose, and you have less time without the drugs in your system so less time for the cancer to recover between doses.

For me the only side effects I am getting so far is the hair loss (I decided not to opt for the cold cap) and constipation, and I actually feel much better than before I started chemo - the cancer seems to be reducing quite quickly already and I was diagnosed at stage 3c

I had eight cycles of carbo/taxol. I had six cycles before the debulking surgery and the two cycles after the surgery. Towards the end I was gettinf a littke chemoed out - platlets and neutraphil low so had to take repeated injections of filgrastim.
