Has anyone had any positive affects from taking soy isoflavones or other isoflavones for bone density?
I see much research that shows Dairy products, especially milk actually makes your bone density worse due to the effects of acid factors of it. That we actually do not need dairy as adults and should be getting calcium from fruits and veggies along with natural calcium supplements. I have recently switched to organic egg shell calcium, as it absorbs 67% more than other calcium. Has anyone been using this and see improvements?

I have been doing a LOT of reading, watching presentations, listening to podcasts, and consulting with experts to learn more about osteoporosis. It has been exhausting but rewarding. I haven’t seen anything along the lines of what you suggest about dairy’s impact on bone density. Could you please offer some citations so I might see what you are seeing? Thanks!
I cant get enough calcium from fruits and veggies. I am just starting the soy isoflavones. I drink one glass fortified orange juice per day. One glass of kefir for calcium and k2-7. One glass of milk per day. I make my own egg shell powder. Boil shells 15 mins. Then bake at 225 for 30 minutes. Grind in coffee grinder. I eat 1 tbsp in peanut butter. I eat canned salmon with bones and sardines. Take collagen I m trying to improve dexa numbers without pills first.
can you tell me how long you have been using eggshell calcium and has it made a difference with your bone scan? I was taking calcium from bovine bone, but just had my Dexa and it got worse. So back to doing more and more research. I came across Egg Shell calcium which is not pushed at all and I think we all know why. Any way, Egg shell calcium is absorbed 67% more times than any other form of calcium. For a week now, I have been taking Garden Of Life Dr. Formulated Stronger Bones made with organic Egg Shell along with my K2, boron and D3. Take my magn. at least 2 hours before or after my calcium. I always take Vitamin C ( absorbic acid) with my calcium as this helps your stomach to actually absorb the calcium instead of flushing it out or your system. I have found numerous info on this on the internet. Most doctors are very misinformed about this disease. I have spent hundreds of hours researching over the last year, it's exhausting. They also talk about salt being bad for your body, however I have read many articles by doctors that say salt is needed by your bones, so just use the normal amount around 2,300 mg per day and they say not enough salt causes osteo. So many conflicting articles out there. One thing they all agree on is High sucrose/fructose diets. That blasted sugar is our bones downfall. Sugar is in almost everything we eat. Natural sugars in fruits and veggies are processed much differently than added sugars. Those added sugars are a bone killer and reduces osteoblast. 1 cup of cereal and one cup of milk has over 6 tsp of sugar. They say you should have not more than 12 tsp of sugar per day as anything more start depleting bones. This is probably why osteo. is so much worse than 40 years ago. They put added sugar in almost everything accept meat.
I also started taking hydrolyzed collagen peptides in capsule form, just because it's easier, but I'm considering getting bulk powder form and adding to my daily smoothie. I have read numerous studies and articles that say collagen helps your bones absorbs better than calcium. So, I decided to do both. Peptides is the key with collagen. Just regular collagen does not absorb well and you are throwing money away.
I had my first bone scan. My spine showed negative 4.3. I'm a trained nurse. And am pretty much opposed to poly pharmaceuticals. I hope everything I'm doing will help my scores. I see an endocrinologist in june. I also will get a second opinion. Since I'm small. So dont trust dexa scan. The operators are only that. Operators. I went to a class on how to install doors. I'm certified. Get it. ? I already feel better after 3 weeks of changes. I only take calcium on days where I didn't get enough by diet
Also all my labs were normal. So there seems to be no reason my numbers were so bad. Also. You are doing the right thing by doing your own research. The medical profession is a business. I'm afraid their business model doesnt get paid for our success.
I agree, but that is because pharmaceutical companies run every aspect of this country, including doctors. There are some doctors who really do not go with the flow, but hard to find.
My rheumatologist recommended soy isoflavones (with Genistein). I started taking it four months ago. It’s too early to tell if it’s making any difference for me, but I trust this doctor. He really listens to you and he’s highly recommended. At first I was taking a brand that was hard to swallow (too large and not slick), now I’m taking Now Soy Isoflavones, one capsule twice a day.
Can you tell me what brand you use and how many mg. your doctor told you to take per day? I have been taking Now brand of Soy Isoflavones 150 mg once a day. Thanks!
I’m taking the Now brand of Soy Isoflavones, too. My doctor had told me to take the recommended dosage on the bottle. It says to take 1 capsule 1 to 3 times daily.
Maybe I only need to be taking one a day. I was reading an article about soy isoflavones and saw this: “It’s currently thought that 40–110 mg of soy isoflavones per day for at least a year may help combat bone loss and protect against osteoporosis.” I will check with my doctor’s office on Monday. Thanks for pointing out that your doctor said to take one a day. If that’s the case for me, too, then it will be one less pill to take each day & they will last twice as long!
actually, my doctor did not advise me to take it. I just decided to do it on my own from the research I have done. So I take only one a day for now to see how it goes. I'm also going to go see a rheumatologist in Kansas city and hopefully he will be able to me more. My primary doctor really does not know much about osteo, but is quick to want to put me on meds. I will never go on those meds because while they give you readings that they make your bone density better, it actually makes your bones more brittle and therefore breaking bones is increased. Hoping I will see improvement from eggshell
Okay, I heard back from my rheumatologist’s office. I am to take two of the Now brand of soy isoflavones. Each capsule contains 60 mg of Isoflavones. I take one with breakfast and one with dinner.
the problem is that this osteoporosis/bone density process is so complex that it is impossible to say “this is something that is making the difference”. It takes years to see differing results in a Dexa scan. I know for myself that I am just trying everything that seems to make sense, and hoping that something sticks when I throw it against the wall.
I’m starting the doterra brand called phytoestrogen. I ordered it on my own. I have friends that sell doterra. It has 150 mg isoflavones per 2 capsules. Also has flax seed extract and pomegranate husk extract
reading up on dexa scans they have a high rate of inaccuracy. Especially if you have any type of extenuating circumstance or on some meds. I have a crooked back. The operator didn’t seem to care at all. Plus the software wasn’t available that gives the tribecular bone score. ( fragility score) . See that costs extra to attach to the machine so because poppa pill can’t make enough money they don’t care. Again in our society. Women need to band together and somehow change so the younger women have better options. I think we need to educate ourselves. Which we are doing and keep learning. I ask too many questions. So my dr wants me find someone else. Fine. Whatever.
