Hey! First time Mumma here, desperate for some advice!

My baby boy is 11 weeks old and is really struggling with ‘colic’ he had a missed tongue tie so had that released around 5 weeks old and I thought after that was done he may not take in as much air when feeding. For a short time, things seemed to be getting better but that was a false sense of hope!

We have tried infacol, gripe water and a probiotic (biogaia). We are combi-feeding (mainly breastfeeding) so formula we have tried ‘cow and gate, comfort’. We also have done a baby massage course so have tried that!

Baby boy does not self-settle, he is always attached to me! We use the sling frequently and swaddles for comfort.

Can anyone give me any suggestions 🤞🏻 I hate seeing him in pain 😭 and it is definitely starting to take its toll on me. I choose not to go out much now (especially on my own) as he can be so unsettled and I find it so overwhelming.

Also, absolutely hates the car if we go anywhere on our own as he’s in the back on his own and I can’t comfort him so cries the whole journeys 😅

Dear Boy-Mumma

I am really sorry to hear you and your little one is having a difficult time at the moment. Having a little one with colic can be tough. It can also be hard to see your little one in so pain. Do you feel that your baby is latching/attaching well when feeding? I will include a link for you to look at regarding this.

Things that you can do for colic is

Continue to cuddle your baby, take it in turns if you have support and don't worry you cannot spoil your baby by cuddling him to much

Wind your baby during feeds and at the end – hold your baby upright to help any wind pass through. Sucking a dummy can help some babies.

Gently rock your baby in your arms / pram / Moses basket.

Try a warm bath for your baby (you could get in together).

It helps some babies to be in a very calm environment – dim the lights, turn off the TV and you can both try and relax .

Please look at the link for colic link as down the bottom of the page there will also be some more information for parents.

You might also consider whether it can be possible reflux. I have included a link for you.

Hope this has been helpful and useful for you. I would like to invite you that if things does not appear to improve to contact the Just One Number on 0300 300 0123 and this can be explored further with you.

I know being a parent can sometimes feel very overwhelming so would suggest if you can attend some groups at your local Early childhood and Family services can be helpful as there will be other parents who have experienced the same and often talking to your peers can help and they might have helpful suggestions too. If possible to, you can walk and put your baby in the pram if he does not like to go in the car.
