Button -Free Methotrexate Pen

About to start with this style of pen.Any tips to make it as comfortable as possible??

I got all excited last Sunday as the box (first of a new lot of 12) had the picture of the new design on it but when I opened it, it was the old one 😏 There was a sticker on the leaflet saying that the changeover was being done gradually and you could get either design for the time being; I'll watch this thread with interest to try to pick up some tips.Good luck, both of you! 😅

They’re really easy to handle and use , I just find that they sting.

It went well. Very easy to use. Just pop it on the skin (I did pinch from habit but understand you don't have to), gently push and hold until it's finished which is fairly quick. I occasionally get a sting a minute or so after injecting and I did this time. Obviously it's the first time using the new format so not sure it's going to happen every time but it only lasts a couple of minutes.

Hi, I’ve been using these for about five weeks and find they sting more than the old type. I started a thread about it but I don’t think they’ve filtered through to everyone yet.

I find leg injection's worse than abdomen, in fact I’ve still got a sore spot on my thigh from three weeks ago! It’s baffling as to why they feel so different than the old style. Hey ho I need the meds so I’ll still use them anyway but it’s disappointing that ‘improving’ something has actually made it worse. Progress eh?

Used the new pen yesterday. Felt a bit anxious reading the leaflet and using it for the first time, but it went well. No stinging and I liked the clicking noises. I'm on 17.5mg so it's probably quicker than anyone injecting 25mg.

I hadn't heard about this change but am expecting new supply next week. From the video they look similar to the ones I have for COSENTYX. I definitely have found them more painful than the old style metoject pens. I have up to now been pleased that the weekly injection is not painful and it is just the monthly one that is pretty uncomfortable. I inject into my upper thigh, cannot bring myself to inject my abdomen.

I'm the same, always use left leg, never stomach, don't like the thought and can't bend fused neck to see what I'm doing! I've had hip replacements and try to aim for the 'dead' flesh around the scar to minimise any pain.

I just looked at the link and it says to inject into the top of the thighs whereas the nurse told me to do it on the side of the thigh when she trained me on the old style - surely it's easier to see the window injecting on the side? 🤔 Ah well, a case of trial and error, I suppose! 😏

they are easy to use and you dont see the needle.I used to inject in my thigh but I caused damage to my nerve so find it easier in stomach ,finding place away from button hole.You must keep thumb on til spring inside has reached bottom.Mine doesn’t click so I watch it through the window on the pen.If I accidentally slip off the button the injection ,like I have twice it is then useless as the liquid pours out onto you instead .Hope they provided you with sterile wipes and you get on ok

It doesn’t have a button, yours must still be the old ones

I used the new style pen for the first time on Monday. I was nervous but it went OK. I was surprised that it said to clean the injection site with alcohol disinfection or soap and water (allowing to air dry). Sterile wipes are not included so I might try to buy some from the pharmacy. I prefer to get the whole thing over and done with as quickly as possible so waiting for my tummy to air dry isn't an option. I assume the new pens go into the sharps box same as the old ones.

When I started, wipes were included in the box but after a thread on here about it, I didn't bother to use them .....

... when a nurse 'trained' me to self-inject, she said throw the alcohol wipe away! Consequently, I have never used any wipes before injecting, just have a shower.

I bought a box quite cheaply from Amazon but if you have a Sciensis delivery you can get them from them (without charge) when you confirm your order.

Yes sharps bin as usual for disposal.

I used the new type for the first time last night. I found easier and less noticeable than the old type. So far so good....

Just done my 1st button free methotrexate… well that was simple and pain free!!! And again thanks to all who replied.
