hi

I don’t know where else to find out this information.

My friend is a pensioner who pays income tax

He is weekly paying a carers bill of approximately £700

Can he offset this against his income tax bill please?

Thank you for your help and advice

Helen

Phone or go to your local Citizen’s advice bureau. They’ll know.

I’m no tax expert but I think this is unlikely. If CAB can’t help I would check directly with HMRC . There are several ways to contact them for general enquiries (see link below).

Looks unlikely. I found this on gov website. It's at the bottom of the pic.

My first thought is probably not. I’d suggest contacting HMRC but you’ll lose the will to live hanging on the phone. They do have live chat which is also generally hopeless. Writing to them however always gets a quick response.

I will ask our accountant and message you with their advice. It’s bank hols so will be a day or two 😊

I hope he’s claiming Attendance Allowance (it’s not means tested) if not getting any other type of benefit. Definitely worth getting advice from CAB or Age U.K.!
