I read in the Autumn 2023 ME Association magazine that R-Alpha Lipoic Acid could be helpful for someone with ME. I use Methotrexate for my RA. Has anyone used this supplement with Methotrexate?

There's some info here:mountsinai.org/health-libra...

which might be useful, but I think it would be true to say that the answer is 'Don't know'.

It is possible that there might be an interaction between it and methotrexate, but I doubt if you can get a clear cut answer.

You will have to decide on the balance of risks and benefits yourself, I think, and do your own one person trial if you decide to risk it. The benefits of alpha-lipoic-acid are not well researched, but if you do find that you have a flare after starting the supplement, then you would obviously stop!

Thank you for your reply oldtimer2. I'm a bit of an old timer myself with several health issues and really don't want to accesserbate any of them so will give it more thought.
