does Sulasalazine cause urination problems

Hi All, its been a month since my doctor put me on 2 g Sulfasalazine a day for my Palindromic arthritis. I have had no problems taking it so far. but I recently had a mouth ulcer and since yesterday have a very bloated stomach with a constant feeling of wanting to pee but when I go to the toilet, nothing seems to come out. should I be concerned? please help

You need to speak to your doctor, not being able to urinate needs checking out.

I am not sure if it is the medication but contact the office and let them know. If they are not concerned a visit to your GP would be good. Maybe you have a kidney infection because what you are experiencing isn't normal. You should definitely seek medical help for sure on the peeing problem. On the mouth ulcer I know that methotrexate can cause them and so maybe salfasalizine can too. If you get reoccurring mouth ulcers then it probably is the medication. When I was on salfsalizine, after several months, I started to get face infections. It was like a layer of my skin separated and then an infection grew. Very ugly. When I went off the medication the sores disappeared so although it isn't a known side effect I know that it was for me.

I'm on 1.5g twice a day and have been taking Sulfasalzine for 4 years. Aswell as the yellow/oranginess, I don't pee much for 3 or 4 hours after getting up but then make up for it later in the day - especially when I go to bed and just want some kip! Other than that I've not noticed any side effects except for a susceptibility for food poisoning after certain foods.

It makes pee orange but doesn't stop you going. You need to get medical advice

I've been on it for 16 years and only side effect for me is the colour of the wee which is darker. If it was me I'd contact GP and get a sample checked for bladder infection.
