Hi I'm currently taking 15ml methotrexate (injections). I've now been on 15ml for 9 weeks with 7 weeks of 10ml prior to increase. No hair loss on 15ml but happening more and more the longer I take 15ml ml. I take 5mg folic acid 6 days a week. Can anyone who has experienced hair loss tell me how long it took to settle down ( if it ever does..) I'm just wondering at what point do I say to rheumatology nurse that the hair loss is going on too long to put up with? Many thanks.
Hair loss and Methotrexate : Hi I'm currently taking... - NRAS
Hair loss and Methotrexate
Mine settled at around 6 months, but my hair only ever got a bit thinner in places rather than clumps falling out. My OH still complains that I block the shower drain, but it doesn’t seem to show as my hair looks normal.
I came off it but lost all body hair from the neck down, smooth as a baby’s bum
Oh my! Would I love that!
The problem is that it has not grown back except for a few very fine hairs on my legs. Sometimes I feel like a child but have got used to it and it no longer embarrasses me.
They called it Hypopituitarism
The hair on my head is absolutely fine but fine hair on my face and have to only shave every three days.
It all started while on methotrexate within a week of taking it. The endocrinologist confirmed it was the methotrexate and offered a solution of meds but decided enough pills already
At first I was told to just have one folic acid tablet per week, but I began to lose some hair so I was put onto having a folic acid tablet six days of the week. I have been on that for about six and a half years now, but over the last few months, I have noticed that I am losing hair, particularly when I wash it and as I already have very thin hair, it is becoming worrying. I will mention it to my rheumy at my next appointment.
Hi there,
I was put on 22.5 MTX injections (equivalent to 25mcg tablets) and after a couple of months started to notice loads of hair in my hairbrush. Mentioned it to rheumy nurse and was immediately dropped back to MTX 20 injections - no more fall-out!
Hi I had long thick hair that could sit on two years ago when I first started on it too. I also did a post lol. Your not alone we all go through it. My hair did thinned down. But it does stop. I notice my hair more than other ppl.
Started MTX first week of January 2019. I had significant hair loss--which my Rhuematologist concurred...........but last week at my beautician appt. she said she saw a lot of baby hairs growing.........so it (hair loss) may be transient!

I want to get rid of hair fall problem with a permanent hair restoration treatment.
