Anyone taking probiotics for diarrhea?

I'm 7 years post transplant and have recently developed a significant case of diarrhea. I'm on 2mg TAC BID, 2mg Sirolimus, and 360mg Myfortic BID. I've had a stool sample and a colonoscopy to ascertain the cause but no luck. I've read that taking probiotics could help, but are people finding these helpful and safe for transplant patients -- if so, what specific brands and dosages are people taking? Thanks so much.

My doctor suggested this: jarrow.com/products/ideal-b.... It's been specifically studied for transplants: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/303....

While on dialysis, my hubby developed c-diff with it's terrible diarrhea and his gastroenterologist recommended Florastor probiotics but we eventually settled on New Rhythm and it did wonders for him. But you have a transplant so make sure your center clears it or go with something your center recommends.

Hi SoCal! Based on the data I've read, a transplant recipient's microbiome changes as a result of the transplant with fewer "good" bacteria available in the microbiome. Of course, taking antirejection meds and antibiotics add to the challenge of maintaining a healthy microbiome. So taking anything that aids the micrbiome is helpful. You want to take prebiotics, which is "food" for the bacteria as well as probiotics, which increases the number of "good" bacteria in the biome. There is literature available on this topic via pubmed, pertaining to transplant recipients in particular. Yes, it is safe. Kefir and a whole range of probiotic foods help, including some Asian foods like kimchi. I take it CMV was ruled out as this is common post surgery and diarrhea is the chief symptom. Best wishes for a quick recovery!😊
