HelloI take pregabalan for diabetic neuropathic foot pain @150mg at night. My consultant pain nurse insits I reduce it and migrate onto nortriptyline. I'm rather worried as previously amatrypline cause me very serious brain fog and extreme tiredness, so I am very reluctant to go back to a similar drug.

Pregabalan v nortriptyline for ckd3
Unfortunately Dr's mitigate medication with CKD. The only safe drugs with CKD are opioid based medication for pain. They can be addictive and need to be watched.
Nortryp did not work for me. however based on a talk by a neurologist I tried 100mg of disipramine instead and it has helped with my most severe neuorpathy symtoms (sandpaper toes) and have switched back and forth from gabapentin to lyrica and back again with limited help.
ive not heard pregabalin is bad for CKD, but there are many possible side effects so I guess it makes sense. I tale 100mg, every 12 hours. Unfortunately it hasnt helped with my neuropathy including awful sciatica. Amitriptyline is a very mild antidepressant. It can improve sleep, reduce stress in some people. It doesn’t work on the neuropathy that I’m aware of. Lyrica (pregabalin), is one of three medicines that can help with the pain of fibromyalgia, which is why i take it: it works differently than anti depressants. I would really question what you’ve been told. Best!
