Lots of hurdles to overcome but what progress. It would/could mean transplant at much earlier stages of the disease and offset the issues that arise from a long drawn out slide to end stage.

You can'tmake a silk purse from a pigs ear but you can make a human kidney from a pigs

I read the research and its amazing that the transplanted kidney started to work immediately. The researchers didn't believe it would and were surprised.

My former nephrologist had mentioned that transplants with the pig kidney would likely come before a mechanical kidney. I hope the next time I need a kidney (e.g. living donor transplant Sept 2020) one of those will be a viable alternative. After her donation, my wife only has a single kidney left. 😆

That pig's kidneys might have human DNA

Pig hearts have been transplanted into humans for decades so it makes sense it would work. I'd have a hard time with either swine organ being a vegetarian since the age of 10. Science is miraculous though, no doubt about it.

Burning building, child standing on a window ledge 2 floors up, piglet standing on a different window ledge 2 floors up.

You've one hay cart. Under which window do you place the cart?

😀

I'd catch the pig, then run to catch the child. Not my kid, if it was my kitty I'd save my kitty over the pig

This one is genetically modified and they say the transplant patient wouldn't need to take immunosuppressants and anti-rejection drugs. It'd be awesome!
