fluttering eyelids before becoming unconscious

hi all,

i’m new here and i just need some advice.

i’ve had quite a few episodes over the past few months of seeing flashing colours in my vision, then having my eyelids flutter uncontrollably before shutting and becoming unconscious for 1-3 mins (all happens while i have a migraine, it usually happens 3-10 times simultaneously, twice a week). i spoke to a gp who is referring me to a neurologist. does anybody have any idea what this may be caused by? i’ve also been having some other neuro symptoms like memory loss, trouble focusing, and fatigue.

thanks :)

The flashing lights are known as fortification patterns and are associated with migraines. Migraines are associated with fluctuations in blood supply. I wonder if you have vascular compression of your facial nerve causing eye twitching? Loss of consciousness I would speculate suggests blood supply issues too. Do you have a blood pressure monitor? Best wishes

Migraines can manifest in a wide variety of symptoms and sensations. This can be dizziness stomach aches visual disturbances head pain spasms in different parts of your body oh the list just goes on and on and on. Make sure you speak with your neurologist and let them know what’s happening. Don’t be shocked if he says it’s part of a migraine and doesn’t put too much interest in it. I know it’s disturbing for you. I experience very similar issues and it disturbs me. Best of luck
