Fatigued!

I'm new here. Just wanted to see if anyone else feels how I do: Everyday I plan to be more productive. I just get so tired! I try to eat well, exercise as much as possible, but I'm just not all there feels like. I take Zoloft! I just don't want to feel worthless to my family! I'm trying...

Welcome! Yes, it is difficult to crawl through life gracefully 😵‍💫

If at all possible, figure out your "good" time of day and save that for your active phase. I've never felt that pushing yourself too hard on a continuous basis is a good thing, so take the time to rest when you need it.

I have figured out mornings are my best time of the day. I do most everything by about 2 or so and start mellowing down from there. Always a struggle but try to stay on positive vibes and be thankful for what you have 👍🏼🙏🤗😉

That's me, too. My family knows that anything involving me (aside from rocking on the back porch!) has to be between about 10 am and 2 pm. Outside of those hours, all bets are off.

“10 - 2” that’s my productive time too. But my to do list always has more on it than I have time to do it!

Yes, it seems like I have a limited amount of energy and strength each day, so I can do most work early in the day, then "veg" out in the afternoon.

Hello and welcome! Fatigue is truly horrible. If I try to do things, I often feel even worse the next day. It's definitely not just you! Stick around and you'll probably find a lot more things that aren't just you! 😊

Hi drumbugg 🙂

👋 hello & welcome to this amazing group of friends.

Fatigue is the “hallmark of the disease, “We all have . Some of us more than others…

I get like that too, though I don't take any meds for it. I do find myself celebrating in the inside when I've had a busy day and not needed to take a nap. Hubby gets a bit worried when I've not had a nap, and reminds me to have one if I'm feeling a bit shit 😬 however, please don't blame yourself. If your family is halfway decent and knows you can't last a day without a nap, they won't blame you 🫂 my mum can't last a full day without a nap sometimes. She doesn't have MS, but I remember her having afternoon naps on our settee, and how much her energy and mood had improved after she had one.

All good advice. Pushing too hard doesn't "win the race" because it backfires. Once you have figured out what works best you will feel better. I hate thinking that you feel worthless!

I also have had the "worthless" feeling. I try to do as much as I can around the house, but I increasingly need my wife to do what I once could do easily. Many things that once were easy for me can still be done, but it takes much more time.

Hello and welcome! I have big plans everyday, but it usually doesn’t all get done 🤪

sounds exactly like me!! Great plans to accomplish things, then fatigue hits me like a truck!! Give yourself grace. A lot of it. As long as something gets done each day, that’s enough.

Welcome! You aren't alone. Fatigue is part of MS for a lot if people. Stressing about it will only make it worse. Take care of yourself so you can be with your family more.

I saw my neuro just this morning and fatigue was part of our conversation. I was offered meds to help with it but I'm on so many freaking meds that I just don't want another one. I said that I'd think about it.

When I was younger Provigil/modafinil in tiny doses, and caffeine, really helped me a lot in terms of staying awake and alert. My body still felt tired. But you could take it or not depending on if it was needed. I also tried Adderall, which really gave me a lot of energy. I got stuff done like you wouldn't believe, but it made me angry and mean. Now all stimulants, even caffeine, can make me angry and mean, so I just have to deal with being tired and sleepy. You might want to give the meds a try, though. They might really help you. Worst case, don't keep taking them if they're not helpful. I get that it's not fun taking fistfuls of pills all the time, but most of mine make me drowsy, so if I could tolerate the stimulants, it would be a nice change of pace! 😆

Oh no! I would take tired and sleepy over angry and mean any day! 🤗

Yeah, it was hard to let go of something that gave me energy, but I had to do it for my poor husband! He called Adderall "Madderall". 😆

PS I also struggle with feeling worthless sometimes, because my husband does the vast majority of work around the house. But we are more than we do, right? I do what I can, and thankfully my husband understands and appreciates what I am able to do. You can still be appreciative of your family, be there for them emotionally, and love them, which is the most important thing. I'm down with Stacy Hayward's advice, which is to try to do one useful thing every day, and try not to stress about the rest. Our society is pretty ambitious about getting stuff done, Home Depot even made it their slogan. But the alternative is pushing yourself too hard, which will just make you health worse. I'm sure your family just wants you to be as healthy as you can be.

I agree about societal pressure to achieve, accomplish, get stuff done!! I am happier getting less done and enjoying doing it. So much is perspective.

I'm there with you! I have good days and bad, and I have to be careful not to overdo it on the good days or I pay for it. Today, getting dressed completely wore me out! So I'm sitting here crocheting and occasionally looking at the internet. Hugs to you, friend. 🧡

Welcome, drumbugg. I find that riding my recumbent bicycle helps my fatigue the next day. Even a 15 minute slow ride helps. I can skip a day or maybe two, but the fatigue returns without exercise. Glad you are here.

Welcome to the forum, drumbugg . Please visit mymsaa.org and look for a recent podcast that talks about ‘ms’ and mental health. I hear what you are saying, but don’t stay in that mindset. Talk to your medical professional to let them know about this. I look forward to hearing more from you! 🤗
