Hi Spot,

I don't have your condition, but I did come across a decent FB group (Hidradenitis Suppurativa Support) where people are sharing information about suitable creams, lotions etc. If you haven't already joined the group, it might be worth taking a look. x

Hi Spot,

Depending on the severity of the condition, diet and creams may have no useful effect. However, an increase in 'fatty' foods such as 'fast foods, sometimes lends itself to the intensifying of the condition. Washing with antiseptic and specialized dermatological creams can reduce the outer infection but the core treatment is antibiotics and possibly sugical removal, depending on the extent. The main rules are to look after your general health and immunity and seek trusted medical advice from your GP/Dermatolagist/Surgeon.

I am new just read this, from my own experience with HS it seem no diet really work. I would like to say keep it healthy aviod bad foods. I have even try to give up wheat etc it does help or it did with me but only way is to try. I went back on it and guess what it flare up again. So now I am trying to give it up. I would say if you going to do it then do it all the way. I agree speak to medical people but on diet just healthy

Hi there

I have a fairly mild form of HS compared to some, mainly top of legs, armpits, chest and scalp affected, but when it does flare up it makes life very painful and inconvenient. I have been to the doctors countless times only to be told "it's just how you're made"

Sorry, not good enough!

Anyway, I have done a lot of online research and there are 2 things that have really really helped me. I now only use tea tree shower gel, shampoo and conditioner which has made a HUGE difference to my scalp.

I do dye my hair and can pretty much guarantee a boil will come up if I do it at the wrong time of the month ie 1 week before ovulation or 1 week before period, so if you want to do anything unusual to your hair it is worth thinking about the timing, aim for the week after your period maybe when your natural defences are higher?

Also, HS can be a symptom of zinc defficiency so I now take a multi vitamin & mineral which contains zinc (amongst many other things which i'm sure must be good for me) and this, combined with the tea tree products has made a massive difference to me!

Also worth noting, these are not expensive changes, I have actually saved money by doing this as I no longer impulse buy the wash products that have the nicest labels or nicest smells, Superdrug's own brand shampoo and conditioner are cheap and work great, also Original Source Tea Tree & Mint shower gel is usually on 1/2 price sale somewhere or on a BOGOF offer so take advantage and bulk buy it!

Another bonus - less bottles in the bathroom, less to move when cleaning! It's all good!

Hope this is of help to somebody, HS is a blimmin miserable and embarrassing condition, we don't deserve it!
