Hello, I am currently a student in bricklaying and masonry. After 2 days of lessons to learn how to handle the trowel with mortar, my hand blisters got worse. After medical consultation, I take amtibiotics and I have to do my wound treatment at home (saline solution, antibiotic cream, gauze sponge and bandage). My doctor strongly recommends that I wear protective gloves in the future. My question: Is it possible that I am allergic to wet mortar or is it more of a chemical burn that could have been avoided? I want to return to school after recovery.

it could be substances within the mortar but yeah wear gloves even tape the end of them to prevent anything getting inside the glove.
If you have a safety officer on site you should speak to them as they should probably provide you with gloves as you are at risk from chemical burns. Good hairdresser shops provide gloves for their staff for handling the chemicals used for colouring hair.
