Keratosis pilaris

Hi! I have struggled with my skin for a few years now and it seems to be getting worse. I felt so ashamed about it, didn't tell anyone to this day. I decided to go to a dermatologist when I'll be able to (seeing that now it's not really possible).

I researched a lot on my own and found the most probable thing to be keratosis pilaris, even though I really wish it isn't as there are no treatments for it (as read on the internet). Anyways, this has really increased my depression and anxiety and makes me feel so self disgusted. Lately though I started to try and love myself and my skin more and accept myself as I am, but still trying to improve the aspect of my skin. I moisturize my skin daily, twice a day, in the morning after shower and in the evening after shower.

Do you have any suggestion for improving keratosis pilaris affected skin?

I do but its up.to u. To do this. Ive posted.several.post.and i to have felt ugly.amd.grossed out but i can say i feel some what better then i have in the last three years. I use onion on my.skin and hair. I use garlic and i take hkt essential oil bathes that are anti parasitic and i add five bottles of peroxide baby oil and coconut oil and sometimes boil hot water eith lemons and add that to my bath. I use orange peel and tangerine peel on my rahes whicb help more then you a think. I also do scrubs to my face neck and at times my entire body. I think i would of cured me but i stopped taking cafe of me lime i was. Wbqtever it is you have to kill it from inside out which i figure out some stuff that does work. Ive been dealing wkth tbis for three years and drs wont listen and had me try there stuff which made me have.a.horrible month and i had to hit myself two times the amount i normally used in ky bathes. I can tell you it will not cure you but it will help u ot more than you think

I'm sorry I don't know about this condition, but the British Skin Foundation hold a directory of all skin conditions so that might be useful. Great that you have decided to try to love your skin and yourself more, and getting a better skincare regime, onwards and upwards xx

Hi! Firstly i want to say that i too suffer from Keratosis Pilaris and i totally understand how it can effect your mood and the way you feel about your skin/body. I'm so sorry. I wish i could say there's a miracle cure out there but unfortunately there isn't, not for me anyway, but i have found a few things that helped (and a few that don't seem to make a difference).

I would suggest trying a decent scrub and sticking to moisturising as much as possible. Those haven't helped me personally but i've heard that it's helped some people, and i don't think it can make it any worse, so may be worth a try.

What makes the most difference for me, oddly, is getting enough sun on those areas where it's worse, i don't quite know if it's the vitamin D from the sun, the slight tan that disguises it, or just having those areas out and 'free' without the irritation from wearing clothes, but my keratosis pilaris always eases up a bit during the warmer months. I've also found that using a decent fake tan can disguise the 'spots' a bit, but you have to be careful not to block your pores up with it as i guess that could potentially cause KP to become worse? In all, bathe in water with no products or only natural products, use a non perfumed scrub, get enough sun to those areas and wear loose clothing. But please, don't feel disgusted by your own skin, you'd be surprised how many people actually suffer from the same thing and how many people wouldn't even notice it. Sending you lots of love xx

Thank you! I haven't worn shorts or anything that would make the skin on my legs visible for so long because it just make feel so insecure but hopefully I'll be able to one day. Thank you for your advice, hope your skin gets better as well!

Food sensitivities, often dairy and gluten, can trigger/aggravate it. You could see if removing one then after a few weeks the other makes a difference.

In the meantime, a good lotion or body wash with glycolic or lactic acid can help with exfoliation of the bumpy/rough areas. I have it on my upper arms/shoulders. And it is stubborn. Not eating gluten and dairy helps, but it can still flair up. I do the best I am able. I can only control the variables that I can. Hope you find a combination that works.

Best wishes.😊
