Lymecycline help please!

I had started developing cystic acne on my chin and it got painful and so cystic and red that I decided to go to my doctor. been on lymecycline for 7 weeks and then my doctor put me on trimothoprim as I wasnt seeing much change. I took the treatment for 2 weeks and then started having allergic reactions. When I went to the doctor they thought the allergy was to something else as it appeared all over my body. So they gave me a different type of antibiotic for a week. Took the trimothoprim after the week was up and then bam got the allergic reaction again.

So now back on lymecycline for another 3 months.

I will have been on antibiotics for 27 weeks once I finish. I am worried after seeing loads of stories about acne coming back worse that this might happen. I also use epiduo on my face each night. My acne has been pretty chilled lately. I think a lot of it was triggered by stress and depression and has cleared up significantly after going home from university. What should I do to prevent the onset of acne after I finish this course. Any tips or urgent things I should do? I have been told to keep applying epiduo to clear skin. Anything else? I also take probiotics at night time. Please give me some tips to ease my anxiety for the future!!!

Hi Lottiegrace

I am sorry to hear that's happened to you. I too was given Lymecycline and Skinoren to combat a small patch of roseca on my cheek. However like you I had a reaction and I ended up with hundreds of spots all over my face and chest small puss filled spots. I stopped taking Lymecycline and Skinoren because I assumed that was what caused it. I called my GP after 3 days the spots were developing new ones everyday and it was so upsetting she advised that the medication works in that way its the whole it gets worse before it gets better. She said I can either continue on Lymecycline and Skinoren and it will continue to get worse until it gets better or try something different. I opted for the latter I am now using Finacea gel and two weeks in my face is a lot calmer I only develop a few new spots and the roseca seems to be lightening. With this however I have been cleansing my face using Caudaile cleanser or anything with tea tree in it and spraying Rose water on my face also wearing sun protection and it seems to be working.

Maybe try meditation to try and help yourself mentally even if it's ten minutes a day in the morning it really helps. But for your skin just make sure its clean and moisturised. Get yourself a good cleanser make sure you leave it on 60 seconds before washing it off. I hope these methods work for you as they did me x

Hi Lottie a few things that really helped me. If you wear makeup double cleanse. Also strange as it sounds a skin oil helps. Clarins lotus oil is brilliant for regulating skin. Just a few drops couple times a week. Also try blue light mask if you can. On Amazon about £25. No bad rays but kills bacteria on skin. If you look at acne on u tube brilliant results with b3(pantothenic acid). You need to take quite a lot but cant overdose as you wee out what you dont need. Lastly look up caroline irons and see her advice. She is brilliant and I definitely recommend a look. Hope this helps.

May I suggest that you look at your diet. Firstly cut out sugar in all forms and carbohydrates such as white bread , cakes, biscuits, breakfast cereals etc which is the healthy way to eat anyway.

PCOS, from which my daughter suffers and was diagnosed completely by accident, is a common cause of the skin problems you describe and strict adherence to a high fibre/ low soluble carbohydrate is the answer for this. If this is the problem antibiotics would not be greatly helpful.

Colloidal silver is a gentle treatment which may help you keep your skin in good condition.
