Purple spots

Hi everyone,

I have horrible big dark purple spots on both of my forearms and I don't know why. The dermo said it's just age and thin skin but why are they appearing? I have MS and RA and was thinking that's the cause but I don't really think so. I'm mystified and so are my drs. Does anyone here suffer from this too?

Hi IKT - Not sure sweetie, but I'm glad you talked to your doctor about it. My mother gets the same thing and it IS caused by her age (85), and a very thin layer of fat under her skin. She lost a lot of weight 20 years ago, and now has so little fat under her skin that it is almost translucent. She constantly looks like someone beat her up, which makes my brother nervous since he lives with her after the death of her husband... Poor guy =)

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm 73. Guess that's old enough for this to happen. I'm still mystified how these spots just appear out of nowhere. I too have very thin skin (like paper), but I was thinking I must have some sort of blood disorder. This is good news except I'll just have to accept that I'll get more and more of these spots. Actually, it's embarrassing to show my arms. Can't wait til winter and long sleeved garments lol! Your brother is a good guy.

Thanks - He actually IS a really great guy. The rest of the kids are all married and cannot just move to Mom's to take care of her. Chuck wasn't married and no real ties, so it worked out well for both of them. He keeps things done around and found a local job, so it's all good.

Yeah - 73 is probably a right age for the condition. You don't take blood thinners do you? Things like Warfarin can do the same thing to you... Best luck sweetie and try not to do what I do... Plow into things and keep going without a second thought =)
