Newly experiencing intrusive thoughts..

I've recently been experiencing intrusive thoughts for the last 2 months and they first were about the fear/theme of unwanted sexual thoughts but because I was so anxious about having intrusive thoughts I started to get flood by intrusive thoughts about everything that could be considered as a 'bad' thought. They feel constant and come up for me all day. I feel really anxious and scared about this getting worse and becoming a more 'serious mental health problem'. Does anyone have any advice or experience? Would really appreciate it as this is all new to me 😔

What you are describing is typical OCD. Is this the first time you have experienced this? May I ask how old you are ? If this is the first time I would advise you to find a good psychiatrist and a therapist who specializes in OCD. These thoughts can be really scary, but remember you are not your thoughts. Don’t try and stop the thoughts because you give them more power. Try and stay with them and the uncertainty. I know this is hard, that’s why you need to find the proper help. There is help, I promise.

Hey I'm not sure if you've been properly diagnosed with OCD but everything your describing among intrusive thoughts is very much OCD related. I get stuck with intrusive thoughts alot most of the time it happens when I'm bored or stressed so staying busy is something I'm trying to do. I'm also on medicine and seeing a therapist who specializes in OCD primarily with ERP therapy (Expose Response Therapy) which is facing your fears or intrusive thoughts head on. It is considered the best form of treatment with OCD. I have seen some progress withing the four months I've started therapy so I think if you're not seeing a therapist and this is causing a lot of anxiety already for two months now, I would seek further help from a medical professional. But don't be alarmed intrusive thoughts are normal to have. The difference from an OCD person is we analyze the thoughts and try to give them meaning when really these thoughts are just pop-up thoughts that do not define who we are as a human being or our personal morals. I know its scary and frustrating to have these thoughts but just know that everyone on here has experienced them. I hope you can get the help you need. We are here for you on this forum/community. Take Care.
