Pregabalin changed my wife and now me and my children are suffering

Good morning I desperately need some help and advice, my wife was prescribed pregabalin in February. Since March she started to change. She stopped doing house work, stopped looking after our children and staying in bad until the afternoon and her personality has changed drastically more so since the doctor put her on 300mg a day. She’s even thinking about ending our marriage and she’s saying the most hurtful things. Before she was on them she was calm, loving and caring and would never do or say such things. We had the same thing 5 years ago when she was prescribed gabapentine it’s basically a carbon copy. She’s coming off them now and I can see slight changes in her after only a few days I just hope she gets back to normal before this gets out of hand. Is there any advice that anyone can give me? Or had the same experience? I’m at the end of my tether

It does sound like she reacts to both drugs which obviously behave similarly anyway. If she's coming off them then that's sounds like the best to do clearly. Both drugs have listed in the side effects they can alter your mental health and it always advised that the patient should be observed for changes in wellbeing when starting them.

The only thing that came to mind when reading your post is that you say she's not looking after the children or doing the house work. With fibro looking after the kids and keeping up with the housework maybe way too much for her. The pain and fatigue are hard to deal with on their own, she may need some help at home maybe the drugs acted like the straw that broke the camel's back.

I really appreciate your reply and I think your correct, I should have explained better she is misdiagnosed and hasn’t got fibro

Oh! I have been on Pregablin and gabapentin for fibro so it didn't occur to me. They didn't work on their own only when I took them together and they made me put on weight which I hated. They wouldn't let me stay on both at the same time anyway so that was that.

If you can get off them please do for your own sanity they’ve nearly ruined my marriage twice

Im not on either of them now, had to come off them for pregnancy. I was on 900mg for Gabapentin, can't remember how much for Pregablin they are very hard to come off. I weaned myself off them three times slower than suggested by the gp though bc I'd had to come off them before and new how hard it was.

My wife has been off the pregabalin for 5 days now and she seems a lot better she’s even done the house work this morning, I know it’s only a start but it’s like chalk and cheese compared to last week
