Surgery with an MPN ...XXX

I just wanted to write this post to help reassure any of you that may need surgery. I've had other health problems for quite some time now, and really needed a hysterectomy...the gynae surgeons were wary, due to my extra weight and my PV diagnosis. I was told in May that they thought I was too complex....then suddenly after that I was given a date for surgery, which really puzzled me.

I had a telephone review with haematology yesterday, and discovered that it was my regular haematologist who had gone above and beyond to encourage the gynae team to operate. This was Sarah Wexler....consultant at the RUH in Bath....she really has been my rock since I first saw her, and I feel she needs an enormous thankyou...and a mention on here.

My op went ahead with minor problems only, whilst I continued on my interferon...and 4 weeks later I'm beginning to further recover , and already feel so much better than I did pre op x

I have PV and also had a hysterectomy nearly three weeks ago for stage 1 cancer in a fibroid. Only spent one night in hospital as had key hole surgery. Recovering well, no problem with my blood results. Just waiting for histology results to confirm cancer was stage 1 - if it is surgery will have cured it and I won’t need any further treatment. Fingers crossed .

Sorry to hear that....Good that you've already had the surgery though..... I also had various concerns, including suspect lymph nodes, but apparently the problems were reactive only x

Good, hope you continue to recover. 😊

Hi Rachel I'm sure others will appreciate you sharing your experience and it's not too often there's a report of a proactive local Haematologist so fair play to yours.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards -Chris
