I have been having horrendous leg cramps every night - they move around from ankle to leg front or back of leg. My feet go into spasm. I have Myelofibrosis and am on Ruxolitinib. I am not getting much sleep. Can anyone help? SkipperL
Night cramps: I have been having horrendous leg... - MPN Voice
Night cramps
Apple cider vinegar helps with my leg cramps. I don’t like the taste so I take it in pill form.
I had the same problem due to magnesium deficiency. It stopped as soon as I started on magnesium supplements. Iron deficiency can also cause leg cramps.
Suggest you let your MPN care team know what you are experiencing and request a nutritional analysis. I titrated my dose based on measured results for Mg and Vit D.
Hope you find relief soon.
Exercise and stretches for your legs should help you.
I shall definitely exercise more!
I would recommend the best thing to do is to go to a physiotherapist and ask for exercises for the particular issue that you have, I had an issue with my quadriceps years ago and to this day still do the exercises, because they worked. Periodically I still ask a physiotherapist for exercises and I continue to use them in a gym as well as well as some other. Stretches help your legs a lot.
Hi...
Like Hunter, I had similar deficiencies and when I started Magnesium, the cramps stopped.
I was getting terrible restless legs that kept me awake. After bloods tests I was put on Colealciferol 800 units. One a day. Much better. Sometimes irritation in the evening but sleeping with very occasional waking from restless legs. Think it was my vitamin D that was low but when I googled it said that this can cause restless legs. Hope this is helpful for you.
Thank you - it seems many of us have disturbed nights - I spent most of last night in agony trying to allay the leg pain, but today I shall start the cider vinegar tablets - I am not sure how many to take to start with - maybe 2 per day - I will report back if there is any improvement. If not - lots of exercises! SkipperL
I take tablets called pregabalin, 2 in the morning and 2 at night, they are very good for legs pains / cramps
Thanks Davesutts / I shall add your remedy to the growing list of things to try! Do you get it over the counter?
For me, an iron infusion stopped the leg cramps. Had it last November and still no cramps after suffering for years.
Hi a good few years ago I suffered terribly with night cramps I have ET and now MF and have been on Hydroxy for over 22 years. my GP prescribed Quinine Bisulphate which I have been on ever since it stopped the night cramps instantly hope this helps cheers,
hello, I truly sympathise with the cramps; I seem to get them in any muscle that I stretch. As others I find taking magnesium citrate very beneficial. When things are really bad, heated blanket over the area helps along with keeping well hydrated. All the best
