You may or may not need Plavix or another blood thinner for thombocytosis. If you also have erythrocytosis or leukocytosis as a function of the polycythemia then you are elevated risk for thrombosis. Conversely, there can also be elevated risk of hemorrhage when you have thrombocytosis. It all depends on your unique presentation of the MPN. Your treatment plan needs to be based on your individual needs. That is why it is so important to see a MPN Specialist to determine what plan is best for you.

There is no way for us to comment on whether Plavix is an appropriate choice for you. Some people with MPNs do need and benefit from it. You will need to work that out with your care team.
