Hi. I havent posted much but thought I would just share this for anyone else looking at having surgery.
While going through tests for my JAK2+ MPN - high Plts 2 ovarian cysts were discovered. Double whammy at time of diagnosis in January this yr.
I had a total hysterectomy 2 wks ago but 2 days later developed a heamatoma. The gaenocologist had consulted with my haematologist & I was given clexane as blood thinner for 2 wks after. The decision was made to keep me on this as the risk of from DVT was greater than from the bleed. When the bleeding was found I received a blood transfusion & my FBC was monitored several times daily until stable. My haematologist was contacted immediately for advise & as a result I am now well on the way to recovery.
The hospital/ Drs & nurses were brilliant & I can only be thankful that they consulted with my heamotologist so promptly.
The main thing to take from this is that if surgery is necessary don't put it off for fear of how your MPN will affect results but DO insist that your haematologist is consulted throughout

Thanks for posting, it is such a positive to learn of your successful operation...
Great advice too...
BTW... I placed a Post here somewhere that might interest you, which discusses a very large cohort Scandinavian Study concerning the likelihood of Blood Cancers, (including MPNs), of being passed on through our genetic inheritance disposition...

Dear Tamsin, thank you for sharing your experience with us so we can learn from it. I’m sorry you needed the hysterectomy, that’ll take some adjustment. But how fortunate to find the ovarian cysts. I am also monitored prior to surgeries because I’m on blood thinners so they switch me to heparin injections. Best of luck to you! Katie
