Trigger warning- Is this self-harm?

About 6 weeks ago, I started to bite my lip mostly due to chapped lips. They cracked and bled. I finally got a hold of the chapped lips but gained a new habit. I now have been biting the inside of my cheeks enough to leave sores. Half the time I don’t notice that I am doing it. It seems that this is when I am thinking of intrusive thoughts. Jaw is tense too. Other times I notice I am starting to do it but can’t stop or using my tongue to block my teeth from doing it. It does hurt but scared the sores will get worse or infected. Is this self harm? What can I do to stop? Should I tell my therapist?

It doesn’t sound like self harm but more like a compulsion. It could be a symptom of OCD. You should definitely speak with your therapist.
