Advice on Depakote?

What should I do if I am prescribed Depakote? I am worried that my psychiatrist will do this, given that I have had a consistent pattern of unskillful behavioral episodes over the past few months. What are the side effects of Depakote that I should be aware of? How often would I have to take it and get bloodwork for it? Could Depakote kill me?
