Do I HAVE ADHD?

ADHD : something that I think I have. I’m going to see a neurologist tomorrow to see if I can get some kind of testing To narrow down what exactly is going on with my brain because within the last year I have experienced so many symptoms like constantly running late misplacing things losing things Etc. I noticed that I cut others off during a conversation, I have difficulty focusing on what they say and very impulsive in most of my actions, And I have a quick temper to top it off! My mother took me to a doctor when I was little but I was unable to get a definite diagnosis so as an adult it’s very hard for me to even get tested let alone get medication! I also have a lot of clutter in my apartment even though I’m not a clutter but I have a series of small piles that I just can’t seem to have enough energy and focus to consistently be organized and neat as a person and it is getting worse. Some days I can get a lot done all those I can do absolutely nothing at along with depression and anxiety which I’ve been diagnosed with bow I don’t know what to do to improve my memory and concentration any advice here would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Heaven46,

Thank you for your post. I had "series of small piles of stuff" that I never got around to putting away for various reasons related to mental ill health. Honestly, somehow those small piles have grown into one giant mess which I need to attend to.

The best course of action is to get into some therapy after tests rule out any physical medical condition.

My therapist recommended a box to put a fixed amount of items in each day. By the end of the day, I commit to doing one of 3 things:- throwing out, recycling or putting it away in its place before bed time. I negotiated down from medium size to a small box and wrapped the box in my favourite coloured paper. This is such a simple idea but I no clue this would help me so much. I can finally see progress on my kitchen bench. I have to say that I am not perfect and there have been some days when it is all too much. I am working on forgiving myself for the slip ups and doing the best I can when I can.

All the best 🐨

Heaven

All I can suggest if you have problems clearing up split your days up into bits and arrange for yourself to work on the piles of clutter in small bites.

You make these bites into, say one hour in the morning and another in the afternoon. Whatever works for you hopefully you will eventually see a difference over a shortish time and that will help you gain confidence in keeping the place clean. I suppose if you now find a pile of washing to do do the machine does all the work although you may need to slit up time periods

When you go for your appointment, make a list of your concerns so that you do not forget anything that is causing
