I was in sertraline for a few years, I found it the best one after citalopram and fluoxetine absolutely did not agree with me whatsoever, sending me on wild binges, finding myself doing things I would never normally do and finally giving in to suicidal thoughts. Sertraline made me feel so much happier, apart from yawning every second of the day and making me feel more tired than usual yet could not sleep, I would come on and off of them when i felt better resulting in me blowing large amounts of money leaving me short for the month in a search for some kind of joy, feeling over driven sexual urges, which would end up sexting and being really embarrassed and ashamed the next day, I would never normally do this either. But also sexting with people I would never ever be with in a million years, over eating, binge drinking, smoking constantly or taking co codamol just to find some kind of joy. Doctor prescribed me mitazipine 3 weeks ago instead of sertraline to help me sleep and try calm me down. I’ve been like a zombie, I can’t smile or laugh, I’m moody and miserable, I’m agitated and snappy, I cry at friends reruns, and I’m eating like a bottomless pit!! Until I’m that bloated the food comes back up as reflux, I have uncontrollable diarrhoea and constant stomach ache. I’m exhausted all the time and would be more than happy to sleep morning noon and night and just wake up to stuff my face and go to the loo. I gave it 3 weeks which is more than I should have and now I’m putting myself back on the sertraline to get back to normal, whether my normal is still not right or not, it’s been horrible and I’ve been horrible. I’m sticking to the sertraline and hopefully that will help me lose these extra pounds I’ve piled on too. Only benefit is that you sleep like a log. But what’s the point in sleeping well when you wake up still exhausted and just want to stay asleep forever. I hope it’s been better for others, but it has stripped every bit of my personality and existence in 3 short weeks. So I’m done with it now.

I frst took Citalopram, which worked without side effects but I found gave me withdrawal symptoms when stopping it. Sertraline had side effects, made me jumpy and I couldn't sleep. Fluoxidine seems best for me although I did have a spell of reflux (but no weight gain or over eating). I also find it easy to stop Fluoxidine.I know somebody who does best on Citalapram and another who finds Sertraline best for them.

I think that different drugs suit different people and it's a question of finding the best one for you.

Of course all medicines have side effects and antidepressants don't start working until you've taken them for a couple of weeks. So my advice would be to find the obe that suits you best, remembering to give it time to start working.
