Hi everyone

I’ve just been put on citalopram, only 10mg for 2 weeks then hopefully will be increasing if all is okay. Haven’t really noticed any side effects, apart from it makes me sleepy but then I struggle to get off to sleep, but my quality of sleep has improved loads only after 3 days. Also getting a dry mouth and I’m wondering if this is normal, I’ve got huge pupils when I wake up! I didn’t notice it until my Mum got the giggles over it yesterday morning, I’ve just got up and noticed it too! Is this quite normal? Going back to work tomorrow after a week of annual leave so that will be fun (I work frontline in a hospital with a lot of patient contact!). I think I’ll tell my boss (I’ve already told her I’m on them as I was worried people were making comments about me slacking at work-I’ve not been wanting to go in which is ridiculous as I love my job!)-just in case anyone says anything.

They also give me a bit of a headache at night. So actually I’ve noticed a few side effects!

These medications, you will suffer side affects, they generally take about five weeks to get into your system. I was reading a report yesterday and they are saying these medications can take longer than above.

Your medication, you are on a low dose, it will most probably increase to 20mg over time.

So you may need to allow a bit more time to get the drug working in your system.

Dryness of the mouth can be problematic after taking medications. The idea of medications, they will slow you down especially in the early days, be patient. Sometimes the pupil of the eyes will increase especially if you get up in the morning in a darkened room. Some drugs can do this as well, although personally no-one looks into my eyes now, SAD so I will need to look at my eyes in the mirror. I take the aforementioned drug and have been on them for many years. At seventy years old I will be on them now for life. Although the medication has been reduced to minimal dose

Try not to worry, it is important you give the drug an extended period to work

Keep Safe

Hello.

I take citalopram - it works for me. I always make the mistake of coming off it when i feel better and then have to face the side effects again! Long term - lowering the dosage is probably the best option (obvs speak to your GP).

Dry mouth and heightened anxiety are the side effects I notice the most.

Take care.

I'm taking 10mg, but the side effect for me is heart palpitations... Large pupils are very common, best to take them around 7/8 in the evening so you won't notice, but after 2 weeks the pupils go back to normal.
