Mirtazpine Withdrawal

Dear All,

Looking for support and positive news. I have been on 7.5mg mirtazpine for several months (having been on 15mg for 2 years). I recently tried to drop to 3.75mg taking once a night. I got to about 2 weeks on this dose and then struggled to sleep and my anxiety returned and spiralled out of control. GP seems to suggest that at this dose, stopping taking it shouldn't cause any problems so feeling rather alone. Any others have any tips or advice?

Hi Oncemore12, thank you for your post and welcome to this caring community where you will receive support from other members. I am sorry to hear that things are so difficult for you at the moment. Please make an appointment to see your GP again to discuss this and discuss ways to manage your anxiety. Have you tried any of the talking therapies, counselling/CBT? Your GP will be able to make a referral for you. Also, the following websites have some helpful information--

Anxiety uk--National charity helping people with anxiety

wwwanxietyuk.org.uk

Are any other members of the forum able to help and support oncemore12, please? I hope you will soon be feeling better.

Thank you and best wishes

You have talked to your GP and He has suggested the dose is low enough as not to cause problems. Follow His advice and hopefully you will feel ok as you leave this medication behind.

You can also duscuss any problems as mentioned by MAS above

Try not to worry, the best way when reducing is allow your partner to manage the dose so you do not know when the dose is reduced to withdrawn, if you can trust for that technique to be instigated. My Wife is responsible for ordering and giving my medications, she also helps and reduces the dose without telling me, this way it is a form of double bluff as you will not know how things are going on a withdrawal

Hello!

I am about to start withdrawing through choice. I can't handle the cravings and weight gain.

I'm hoping I get an easy time, I am taking fluoxetine as well as Mirtazapine and i'm hoping that will hold me up.

Sleep is my big problem. Let me know how you get on.
