Hi, I’m scheduled for a circumcision in about a month and am kind of nervous about the recovery and outcome. I’m 33 and have never really been able to enjoy penetrative sex or oral sex because my foreskin is so tight. I’m wondering if there are any tips you’d give me or if there are questions I should ask my doctor before. Thank you.

What technique will be used for your circumcision? Because recovery will depend on the technique. When the doctor says full recovery will happen in 6 weeks, let me tell you that is applicable only for 60-70% of cases. Recovery may take upto 2 months or even more. Ask your doctor what kind of support they will provide post the procedure, because I felt they do not care much later.
Get rid of the first gauze during the first 24-48 hours in a shower, calmly pouring water on your abs so the flow is gentle and helps you removing it, as it will be a bit sticky to the wound. It’s rare to get an infection, as the penis and the mouth are one of the toughest regions of the body against bacteria, but I’d suggest you buy lots of dry wipes and use them to dry your penis after a shower (Do not use towels, that’s full of bacteria) It’s very important to keep your parts dry as that helps with the healing. During the first week I’d suggest being naked at home if you can, that will boost the healing. Try also to keep yourself in good spirits and distracted during post op, read new books, call friends or family etc to keep yourself busy, share your anxieties and thoughts with the ones you love and call the gp if you have any worries or questions. Good luck benji on this adventure, and congrats on your decision.
Edit: Also the food! Have a lot of vitamin C, D and water! Fruits and veggies are perfect.
A question to ask is are there any alternatives to circumcision. Have you tried all alternatives like stretching etc? You should also check what method and style etc ie high or low and tight and loose cut. also whether you will keep or remove your frenulum. This will affect the sensation in your penis after healing.
Funnily enough I don't remember being asked about much. Was sent by my GP because he said this specialist did heaps. Turned out to be one a year. I do remember him saying how much I cut off depends if I wake up aggressive. that day " When I wake up like that I really feel like going for it " ,
Ask your doctor about the type of circumcision. Partial or complete. After partial circumcision there are many more complications. And you also need to exercise the foreskin. It's very painful. After complete circumcision there is a minimum of complication and much better you maintain dryness. Drought in the wound is the most important protection against infection. More shortening of the foreskin, will give you better sex (more friction) and better healing (easier to keep dry)
Do your research on how you want it and don't be intimidated or embarrassed. It's your penis for the rest of your life and hopefully you will never meet them again anyway. I drew a line exactly where I wanted it done expecting him to think I was a jerk but he said it helps him. To avoid scarring with stitches he gave me a sterile scalpel and tweezers and said leave them in no longer than 10 days. Good luck and hope you can start actually enjoying sex.
I hope you have tried everything before deciding to take this option.Ask questions of the the doctor doing the procedure.
DO NOT be afraid or embarrased to do so. If the doctor is being evasive, that should raise a red flag.
It is your penis and you will have to live with the results for the rest of your life.
You have to take all precautions to ensure you are happy with the results.
