Doubts about circumcision

ArtaB profile image
39 Replies

Went last Thursday first time to the doctor with a phimosis problem. She concluded that the only solution is to do a circumcision. Friday is already the day, but so have doubts. Why so fast? And how will my already small dick look like? There is a lot of skin now with not much in it. So it looks taller now. I fear that I will loose a lot of visual length. My other doubt is do they even know how big my dick is in erect position. The ratio between the two is bigger than normal. I'm afraid that the stitches will be too tight. Please someone that had the same doubts....

I don’t have your problem. However, if you have doubts, do not rush into having surgery that essentially cannot be reversed. The doctor should respect your decision even if they don’t agree with it. If the doctor tries to pressurise you, walk away and find another one. You are entitled to ask for a second opinion in most countries as far as I am aware.

I agree with IP_Nightly. If you have any doubts just don't do it.

I would recommend a prepucioplastly or partial circumcision where the tip of the foreskin is removed where the phimosis is occurring, and you can retain most of the functions without going thru complete circumcision, not counting once you do circumcision it will never be the same and lose sensation on the glans because the foreskin was removed, wish you good luck.

That is too quick. Have you tried stretching with steroid cream? Do your homework before the operation. Doctors are too quick to say circumcision. Do you want to get circumcised? I’m in a similar situation to you. If I was you I would cancel the surgery until you get all the answers that you are looking for. Have a consultation with the surgeon but don’t agree until you are completely happy with your decision. Pm me if you want to talk.

Definitely get a second and third opinion

Oh man.The surgery is already in a few days.... can I still cancel? Scared like hell

in reply toArtaB

Not to late to cancel unless you have had the operation. I would call them and ask to postpone it for just now.

Take a step back.

Take a breath.

You are the only person to decide what happens to your body.

I would suggest that you cancel the operation for the moment. I would also suggest you discuss the issue with another doctor. It sounds like the first one told you what to do as opposed to exploring the options with you. The options range from stretching, to less invasive surgical options to the various degrees of circumcision.

I wish you well.

Hello all . Thanks for the replies.I'm gonna be circumcised this Friday due to the phimosis issue. It's only a week between the diagnosis and the surgery, I'm just scarred as he'll and this is mentally very heavy for me.

I realize now after second opinio of a good friend nurse, that there is no other solution like the steroid cream, because when 50+ that won't work anymore.

I'm worried about the result. The radio in length and diameter between flaccid and hard is bigger than normal I think. So how will it look like after circumcision? I'm afraid that the result will look like a horror baseball bat .

Hi mate. Couple of things for you.

I wish I had the one week turnaround, I had to wait months and get it done by a urologist in hospital under general anaesthetic.

If you are getting a quick turn around then the theory would be that you don’t have any complications and the surgery looks easy. If you’re unsure, be up front and straight up ask the GP “how many have you done?”

“What are the complications after surgery?”

Yes, if you are 50+ yrs, your phimosis skin will be thick and growing thicker. I’m in my 40’s and had no idea the condition even existed. The specialist explained that I would be forced to do it as I got older as bad phimosis can actually grow to completely block your ability to go to the toilet and require emergency surgery.

The other thing mate, you will be sensitive for months. Recovery from the surgery is only a few weeks, however what we consider actual recovery to “normal” will take months, even up to a year.

*Sex is not better or worse, it’s different* and you’ll be ok learning it all again. Masturbation is a learning process and lots of lube. I’ll be honest, it hurts and feels good for many months, take care of yourself and practice like you’re 12 again. You’ll get there.

What may not be right for you, but what I did was use vaseline on gauze, wrapped the glans and wore jocks straight away. This allowed me to walk around and function to do basic things very quickly. I weaned off the vaso in about 3-4weeks. If you do this, wear black pants or jeans, vaso stains light clothes when it melts and you look like you pissed yourself.... black pants or jeans mate, trust me!

You’ll be sensitive for a long time, but it’s ok, you’ll be ok.

I haven’t met a doctor, nurse or specialist that has ever told guys how long it really takes, mentally and physically to recover to our normal. That’s why forum’s like this exist. We’re expected to just live on almost zero information. Ask questions, we are here to help.

Finally, if you have a partner, TALK about all this with your partner so you can have support and understanding for the length of time it takes to be bedroom ready.

Looks, well, it should “look” bigger, so you’ll get over the change quickly. For a while the glans and newly exposed inner foreskin will be different colours. Purple, pink, red, everything in between. It didn’t bother me because I am MUCH better looking in the dark anyway, so I just turned the lights off.

Good luck!!!

Oh, forgot to add. Your skin is elastic, it’ll grow and expand back to normal. It will take a while though. You’ll be shorter and skinnier because you have a big cut around your penis, it’s natural for your body to protect it. Expect more normality for length etc at about 3-4months. I’m at 6 months and I’m still filling out a bit from a tight scar. It’s ok mate, it’ll come back, you’ll be ok.

So true. My surgeon never told me anything about the journey afterwards , guess he just considered it as something i should figure out for myself. And im so greatfull that forums like this exist. This helped a lot.

With hindsight from my experience with my circumcision, I would have asked the urologist to advise and provide details of how he will do the operation. Definitely get him to examine you in detail and explain to him/show him the size of erection/foreskin length before the operation if you can.

My urologist never examine me in great detail. I just pulled my trousers down to show him but it was flaccid/shrunk at it’s smallest size in the cold room! I should have explained that the foreskin never covers the glans as I only have a short foreskin and the real problem was the tight frenulum/breve. He cut the foreskin too short so the scrotum pulls up when I am erect and he kept the frenulum intact which still gives me a problem now.

Make sure the doctors are aware of your concerns before the operation. I would cancel the operation if it is not urgent for you. But you may have to wait for months on the NHS.

Thanks for your reply. I hope I can discuss this size thing before the operation.

Hi man, I got circumcised and don't regret it but if its not what you want there is a higher chance you will wish you hadn't. I'd urge you to investigate stretching with steroid creme and cancel or postpone the op. You may choose or need to do it in future but you shouldn't be rushed into it. If or when you do and if it's local anaesthetic you'll have plenty of opportunity to tell him/her as you lie thete that you're a serious grower and it needs to be loose. If it's general anaesthetic I'd expect you will have the opportunity to discuss it with them first but you must demand it if it isn't offered. This is no time to be shy, it doesn't matter what they think of you as a person because you'll probably never see them again. I actually drew a line on mine where I wanted it after experimenting with it hard and soft! Good luck, and if you do end up doing it it's nowhere near as bad as some people would have you believe. As I say, no regrets.

In all cases with time things will come back to normal but point all ur fears the problem u have now is also frustrating and not to be takin lightly on other hand I should be aware that this cut is not a game it’s an operation and also it take time and side effects are there If u are a grower u need to point that and do the measurements I did my self also u need to know that if u do this u may think of repeat the process later as some don’t like the partial cut also advice highly ZRS if I’m not wrong which I did as it’s safer then any other but also be sure to not over pull the skin this may lift ur ball sack to visually shorter penis please read my other posts

Do ur research visit few doctors educate ur self

Hi Man, this is a decision that you have to be happy with and come to terms with if you have doubts then you could postpone and get a second opinion It sounds like you need the circumcision for medical reasons phimosis can be quite a difficult condition there can be underlying cause which you would need a circumcision for. If you do decide to go ahead speak with your doctor about your concerns. All the best Man

I cancelled the surgery for now. Next try is on the 10th of May. I cancelled it because I'm to afraid (yeah I know I'm a pussy), and I have to many unanswered questions.

And hey, although I have the phimosis problem, the oldtimer car stays in the garage for a few months longer.

in reply toArtaB

ArtaB I think that was a wise decision. Postpone until all your questions have been answered - and you are fully aware of the benefits, risks and alternatives.

MrMac99 profile image
MrMac99 in reply toArtaB

That's probably the best it's only postponed it will give you more time to get info on everything. You can speak with your doctor and even this forum will help. How long have you had phimosis for? Can you retract at all?

ArtaB profile image
ArtaB in reply toMrMac99

I can't retract at all at this moment. My whole life the foreskin was a bit tiny when my penis was erected, but since a few months it suddenly became worse. Now I can't even retract when flaccid.

in reply toArtaB

Ok, so your issue is a rapid change in the tightness of your foreskin, rather than long-standing phimosis. It would strike me as sensible to understand the cause of the rapid change, see whether it can be reversed medically or whether surgery is the best option. Have you noticed any other symptoms such as balanitis, redness at the tip, splitting of the skin, swelling of the foreskin, thickening of the skin itself or an injury to the frenulum? I think it would make sense to see a dermatologist as essentially you have a skin issue. Lastly where are you in the world?

MrMac99 profile image
MrMac99 in reply toArtaB

Hey Man ok I presume your doctor has tried some creams for balanitis & fungal infection and maybe some steroid cream as well, have you been tested for diabetes? Do you have any scarring to the foreskin? It sounds like you have quite severe phimosis if you have scarring it could be difficult to resolve.

ArtaB profile image
ArtaB in reply toMrMac99

Nothing was tried before. I'll leave for a few moths and see what happens. I only need it for taking a leak, so that's no issue 😅

in reply toArtaB

Keep moths well away from it! 🤣🦋

MrMac99 profile image
MrMac99 in reply toArtaB

It's not something you should leave it will probably only get worse you should go back to your doctor and try some of the creams at least and see how it goes. and see if they can find out what has caused your foreskin to become tight. There are conditions that would need treatment and taking a leak could become a problem in the future 😳

Prefer a male surgeon.

Maybe request a male doctor.

Even son, talk to a male relative and see if anyone in the family has similar problems for you to better understand.

Hi, I has mine done 2 weeks ago. I'm 41 and had been living with phimosis since my teens. Wish I has done it 20 years ago instead of suffering. It gets worse the longer you leave it, including infections like balenitis. Seriously go get it done. Its too late (like it was for me) to start stretching or using steroid creams.

😁

I'm glad you postponed the circumcision. Your doctor seemed to be in a hurry to circumcise you. That's a red flag. I have to wonder if she is out to make a quick buck. There are other options, like stretching, steroid creams and an operation called a dorsal slit. I'm sure there are other options.

Other people who have replied to your query have given good advice, but do your homework and find the best option for you.

In the meantime, manual stretching of the foreskin can't hurt.

Yesterday I had the circumcision performed. For 2 months I tried everything, but this was the only solution. I am now at day 1. I have no pain so far, just sensitive due to friction clothing. The whole thing is well swollen, but that will be normal I guess.

I'll try to keep you posted on the further healing process

ArtaB profile image
ArtaB

Day 2 and I'm worried 😟. The swelling got worse. I can't even find the stitches to clean and some meds on.

Markus411 profile image

Don’t do it,, avoid circumcision if possible,, try everything conservative first

ArtaB profile image
ArtaB

Day 3 and my worries were correct. During the night I had some fever and a lot of pain. Today I went to the doctor and she agreed that there is a start of an infection. So I start take antibiotics. I hope this will give results in a few days.

ArtaB profile image
ArtaB

It seems a bit beter. No more fever

ArtaB profile image
ArtaB

Day 4 and 5Swelling seems a bit better today.

There's a little bit more fluid (watery blood) is comming out between the skin and the gland, but I guess this is normal now the pressure from the swelling is a bit less. I still can't see the stitches.

This morning I woke up suddenly from a pain, caused from a morning erection. Damn that hurt.
