Hi, i had mine done yesterday. Due to covid i had to wait a little over a year before my appt. I imagine yours will be faster though as things are getting better and they are getting through the list.

Can you message me mate? Got a few questions if you don’t mind!

Your question is rathr like asking "how long is a piece of string". Covid is causing all sorts of problems even with major and critical surgery, so minor and non-urgent matters like circumcision are well down the list of priorities, especially as the NHS has always been somewhat anti-circumcision.

If you want to get done quickly, the only real answer is to get it done at one of the specialist circumcision clinics where the waiting list is generally no more than 2 weeks.

A specialist clinic will charge around £500 for an adult circumcision, only private hospitals requiring you to have a general anaesthetic and stay overnight will charge into the thousands.

A lot depends on the area you are in as to whether the local hospitals are doing 'non-urgent' procedures. You may well be in pain, but to the NHS almost no circumcision is urgent! You could ask your GP to chase things up for you though.

I’m not getting it done without annestitic and I’ll chase it up with my gp

You would be given a local anaesthetic, which is all that is required for such a simple, quick, external procedure. A general is not required for circumcision and upsets your entire system for up to 48 hours as well as putting some strain on your heart and lungs.

You can always ring the hospital it is due to happen at and speak to your consultant’s secretary about the waiting times.

How do I get the doctors secretary’s number?

in reply toJedSpinx

Just ring the hospital switchboard and ask to be put through.

If you ask your gp to write a letter saying is causing you more pain and discomfort. The elevate you up to the next level. I was seen 2 weeks after the letter was sent out. Although I waited a long time. I was fitted in as soon as there was a cancellation

You should have a extension number and a name of the staff dealing with your case it will be sent on your consent forms that should of been posted to you. I was on the waiting list and badly wanted to get it done privately but due to financial issues it was a bit tricky but luckily I was able to go private solve my medical issue and get my dick cut to how I prefer it to look. With the NHS they are not about aesthetics they will remove all of the foreskin and send you on your way. Private clinics do circumcision day in day out and prioritise the patient on aesthetics and health reasons. The NHS is bloody brilliant but do your research look into everything before you commit to surgery you only get one foreskin. I am circumcised solved my medical issue phimosis and now have a nice looking cut. Going private I had the choice to maintain more inner skin. With the NHS you don’t get a choice. Again do your research plenty of it understand what is going to happen and do it once you are comfortable and understand don’t regret it in the future don’t rush and be patient.

Once cut remember to keep your penis clean and moisturised daily maintain your sensations brother don’t ruin your penis you only get one.

Wish you the very best on your journey we have your back mate.

in reply toOcean-finance

Mine was NHS and looks fine, in fact better than many of the private clinic horror stories that have been posted on here in the past. I think it’s unfair to suggest or imply that NHS surgeons don’t take any pride in their work. Furthermore we shouldn’t forget the OP is on the list for medical reasons and not cosmetic.

in reply toJedSpinx

I was expecting a local anaesthetic but my GP suggested having a general and I was easily persuaded. It was great, didn’t feel a thing other than the line going in the back of my hand which was only like having a blood test.

If you can afford it go private. I gave up waiting for the NHS & went to one of the Spire Hospitals. It will cost you £250 to see a consultant & £2000 for the operation. Money well spent if you can afford it.

I was told in September that the waiting time for my initial consultation with a urologist would be 18 weeks. With the COVID situation I suspect the wait would be longer, and even longer still for my op. I decided to go private and had the op done at the beginning of Jan. I am now paying it off on a monthly finance package, but I wasn’t prepared to wait. Good luck.

I waited for over 10 months on NHS for my Op.

How much is it privately if I may ask? Did urologist thoroughly examine you and advised how he/she will operate, type of cut etc?

Dorset24 profile image
Dorset24 in reply toMrKenny

£1,900 but I am paying monthly for 18 months. Yes, thorough examination and the care was first class. I am not entirely sure on the ‘type’ of cut, but it looks very good.

I had mine done 10 days ago mate. I was on the waiting list through nhs for 11 months. Last Feb I went originally and was seen on the 27th of July. Any questions message me

Hi, have you had your pre-med consultation yet? Where you go in and they take blood pressure, ask questions, etc? They have to do the op within (I THINK) 3 months of that or they have to do the pre-med again which costs them money. As Ocean Finance says below, you'll get the cut they give you, no choice. As the NHS are doing it it must be for medical reasons and I'm assuming you're not bothered about the style? Which is fine, not everyone does just some of us. Good luck mate, hope it's soon and don't take any notice of the anti circumcision brigade - never met a guy yet done as an adult who wasn't glad they did it.

I have had my consultation which he said that he was putting me on the waiting list

8thfloorben profile image
8thfloorben

Sorry mate, not sure I was clear. There's a consultation with your GP, then with a surgeon, then another with nurses to make sure you're OK to operate on. It should be within 3 months of the last one with nurses but with Covid it may be longer and let's face it, waiting is better than catching that in hospital!

JedSpinx profile image
JedSpinx in reply to8thfloorben

In the nhs you sure?

JedSpinx profile image
JedSpinx in reply to8thfloorben

Got told off someone off here that the nhs will send letter out telling you date and time and when for the op. Then when you go the doc goes through before hand any questions and tells you the plan. Then I will get operated on!

in reply toJedSpinx

Yep, sounds right

Just looked online, try nhs.uk/conditions/having-su... then click on Pre operative assessment ?

jimfromcalif profile image

Why do you want it done?

JedSpinx profile image
JedSpinx in reply tojimfromcalif

Paraphimosis

jimfromcalif profile image
jimfromcalif in reply toJedSpinx

Is it currently resolved?

JedSpinx profile image
JedSpinx in reply tojimfromcalif

Nope. I have parahimosis and i have been on the nhs waiting list for 4+ months. I’m really worried and concerned as the foreskin gets trapped behind the head of the penis when erect and it stops the blood flow which I consider to be dangerous and an emergency.

I think I had to wait around six months when I had my circumcision done on the NHS. But that was about 20 years ago.

NorthLondonR profile image
NorthLondonR in reply toNorthLondonR

I had a revision done at a private clinic in September last year to improve the cosmetic appearance but as I was paying there was no waiting time as such.

I only have 1 week between diagnosis and the surgery, which is scheduled now on Friday. It will be done under full narcotics. I don't know where you all live and what all the different option you have, but health care and healt assurances in Belgium are one of the best in the world I suppose.

Hi mate. Last year, in July 2020, I was brave enough to go to urology for a small non-sinister cyst on the middle of my frenulum. The only way to remove it was to undergo for a full circumcision surgery. I've been on a waiting list from July 2020, in November I had a date but it was cancelled due to high covid admissions. I've got another appointment for 19th of February 2021 but at the gate of the hospital in the surgery day I've got a notification from NHS track-trace to self-isolate for 6 days due to be in contact with somebody who had tested positive with covid. Lucky me, it was an empty space for the next week (26th of February) and now I'm finally after! I think it's depends on your luck and on your location. Good luck mate and don't be afraid from the surgery you will not feel anything,... ;)
