Hey guys, so I’ve seen that many of you have glans sensitivity post op and I do as well. Some of you suggest just fighting through it and others suggest Vaseline/other similar healing agents. Obviously, the Vaseline helps with discomfort. My question is, does the Vaseline have anything do to with the speed of recovery, or if I fight through the discomfort without vaseline will the keratinization process actually be quicker? My concern is that the Vaseline may actually delay the keratinization while also short term making me feel better.

Today my doctor said I could keep applying Vaseline but I have my doubts. I actually stopped putting vaseline a few days ago. I think dry and clean might be better for recovery. I'm on day 12 today.
It’s so uncomfortable right now. Almost unbearable. Hope I can power through. I suppose I will keep applying the Vaseline. Good going brotha👍🏻
Vaseline helped me a lot in the first week when I still had gauze/dressing on all the time. Right now, I'm powering through without Vaseline on my glans. Also I forgot to mention that almost all of my stitches have fallen off.
I let my gland air dry. I never out anything on. It did dry up pretty quickly. Around the second week.
Yes, Vaseline does help healing. The scar in particular needs to be kept moist in a good way with the body’s natural moisture. Vaseline keeps it clean and keeps it moist to heal faster. Dry scabs take much longer to heal and have more chances of becoming ugly scars.
As for glans sensitivity, no matter what you do, air dry or not, it’ll take 2 weeks at least.
So, if it helps with comfort use it all over, otherwise definitely use on your scar.
Early stages for comfort I wrapped it in gauze with Vaseline on the gauze (because it was sore to touch/rub).
I struggled with this as well but found applying baseline just to the scar and allowing the glans to air dry was the best. I sat in the evenings with the lightest pair of shorts I had and let it dry. If you can try to let it air dry with no clothes covering it. It will get better!
There are three function of petroleum jelly at least:
It forms a protective layer between recent wound and outer world.
It helps to maintain moisture balance on incision line. There is no need for scab on wound.
A layer of petroleum jelly helps you to loosen bandage/gauze cause it won't stuck in wound or dried discharge. You don't want to rip off a new layer of skin every time you unwrap the gauze. If your glans is reddish and sticky after operation the idea is the same. It may slow down the keratinization on glans, but will help healing process anyway.

BTW. Vaseline is registered trademark of Unilever and it's a one of the white petroleum jelly producers.
I presume your circumcision was because of phimosis, which is why your glans is so sensitive. Ultimately, you will just have to power through the discomfort for a while as the more the glans can directly contact clothing, your hand, etc the sooner it will become used to it and not feel uncomfortable.
You can use some Vaseline, especially to stop bandages sticking to the wound, but do so sparingly.
I used Vaseline in the first week, it helped with healing as it stopped the gauze from sticking. Wish I’d learnt the lesson a few days earlier. Almost finished my second week now and no longer need gauze or Vaseline.
I’m still quite sensitive on my glans but that is getting easier.
In fact went for a run yesterday 11 days after op and felt fine. I was well supported though and my surgeon had said it was ok. Will be a while before I can have sex or masturbate though.
