About a month ago I noticed my my banjo string is hard and has looks like it has white scarring that goes a little on the gland itself. The one on the gland is line shaped and has a hard feeling as a well. Anyone know what this be could? My GP said he doesnt know but says it might not be a health concern since there’s no pain or anything. He has made me a referral to the uroglogist. I feel like a dermatologist may be a better option. Does anyone know what it could be?

Hard banjo string and white scarring?

Hi mate, sounds to me like a condition called Lichen Sclerosus. It’s sometimes called BXO. It can affect the glans, foreskin and frenulum (banjo string). It normally causes white scarring on any of these areas but the banjo string is somewhere that it normally attacks. I’d see a dermatologist too as they’ll be the people that will diagnoses you. I’ve just been diagnosed with it too. Maybe look it up online and see what you think.
Did it affect your banjo string as well? Was your banjo string hard at all and did you have scarring on the gland?
It hasn’t affected my banjo string, but I’ve read a lot of people even on this forum that it affected their banjo string. I’ve got redness on my glans but no white scarring.
Hey I’ve added a photo of it. Does it look like BXO? I’ve searched up pics but it looks diff. I feel it may have occurred due to rough masturbation but not sure
Looks like BXO to me though, well all of the standard generic pictures of BXO I’ve seen. The symptoms can actually vary an awful lot. When my dermatologist diagnosed me I questions that pictures online look a lot different/worse. Are you in England mate?
Are they white spots on your glans too mate?
I am from the usa. And just the white line as shown in the pic on the the gland. Today it actually looks better. The white on the frenulum seemed to have went away and the it isnt hard anymore. I still have the white line on the gland itself though. Maybe it’s not an issue and it’ll go away on its own. I’m still waiting for my next appt so maybe by then it’ll be gone
Scarring in itself isn't a good thing and near the genitals is a cause of concern. If your doc recommended you to go to a urologist I would abide by it .But since you don't know what you have and neither does your GP , you might as well get it diagnosed by a dermatologist first before going to a urologist . Also if it is BXO , you may need ointment and conservative treatment first which a dermat doc can give and if it doesn't work out you can discuss with your urologist Abt the scar tissue and it's management . All the best !
Hi, it sounds like it could be LS but there are other conditions as well the urologist you have been referred to should be able to diagnose it by just looking at it or they may do a biopsy to confirm it. they may also prescribe some steroid cream and refer you to a dermatologist as well. It probably looks worse when you are erect?
I’ve just added a photo of it. It actully doesnt look worse erect. It looks worst when I wake up in the AM. I guess that’s when it’s dry and all. Any thoughts?
I'd definitely have that checked in my opinion it does look a bit like LS but a proper diagnosis is needed and treatment. Has your banjo torn in the past?
Mine hasnt torn before from what I’ve recalled. I see you’ve had it before. Did it affect your sex life? Also, was the texture of it hard for you?
Hey Man, yes it did affect me it was quite sore at times the frenulum did get hard and got quite tight. it eventually broke which freed everything up but the LS kept slowly spreading. If you have a look at my other post you can see what the condition looked like for me. You should get checked out as soon as you can.
I’ll def get it checked out. Last night I noticed it not as bad and this morning the white on the frenlum seemed to have went away and it’s not hard anymore. I’m still going to the urologist when my referral kicks in but I have a feeling it may go away by then.
I don't think a "hard" frenulum is something you're going to want to deal with long-term. If it tears during sex, you're going to have a bloody mess on your hands (or something else). I tend to agree that the urologist consult is most appropriate here. Good luck!
They look like Fordyce Spots.
