Evening everyone - glad to have stumbled across this forum.

After knowingly suffering from phimosis for 15-odd years (I'm 32) and having poor health care/advice experiences along the way, I somewhat reluctantly decided to go ahead with a circumcision which is taking place next week. Apprehension is high!

Any final pieces of advice are appreciated. A couple of specific questions I have:

- How painful/uncomfortable are you afterwards and for how long? I'm in a bit of a tricky situation in that I currently live with family and do not want them to know. I have checked myself into a hotel near the hospital the night after the op, and following I'd like to be able to manage the situation myself without having to disclose it to my family. I do have some friends that are aware, for moral support.

- How long did it take you to go back to work? I've booked 3 days off including the day of the operation and should quite easily be able to extend that to a week. I will struggle to go beyond that.

- Anything to suggest asking of the surgeon and others looking after me before and after the op? The surgeon I'm having has a lot of expertise in the area (and as such I've waited a long time for him) so in consultation he felt confident on the type that I would need (which involves leaving some foreskin behind).

Replies or private messages greatly appreciated. Thanks.

All of the issues mentioned post op are variable. Some men drift through the healing process whilst others have a more difficult journey. You may need the full week! Follow all the instructions that you receive for post-op care so as to avoid infection. Tight underwear to keep your penis in place post op would be sensible.

Hi, the recovery does vary from person to person you may need more than 3 days I would be incline to take the week off the main thing is to avoid infection keep everything very clean you may need some none adhering dressing to prevent sticking to your wounds a good pair of tight boxer briefs. you may also need to keep your penis in an upright position to avoid swelling as much as you can. You will probably have quite sensitive glans afterwards there's not much you can do only let it subside it will in time. Also make sure your friends are there in case you need any support.

The guys above speak good sense. Good luck with it. A few people have difficult recoveries but most are ok. I hope it goes well.
