Hard Lumps in internal shaft of Penis

I had sex with my wife a few weeks ago, and during this time (she was on top), there was an instant whereby she thrusted just a fraction too hard which caused instant pain to the shaft of my penis. After I re-corrected her position, the pain dissipated and we carried on as normal and everything carried on working fine.

A few days later, I noticed, whilst in the shower, that, when looking down and feeling the shaft of my penis, on either side on the underside, it kinda feels that there is hard tissue, almost like I can feel bone inside?! It's quite strange as I can feel this on both sides (about 3 to 4cms from the body, going outwards towards the tip).

Its not swollen, does not hurt, is not visible (either when penis is erect or flacid), nor is it discoloured and all penis functions are normal - it's just that I can now feel these 2 strange 'bone' like hard pieces if I squeeze me penis on either side, with my fingers (again, lumps do not hurt), so I am really at a loss as to why these have suddenly appeared and if the penis is damaged at all?

After further researching my symptoms online, I have discovered that my symptoms do actually match Peyronie’s disease (healthymale.org.au/mens-hea.... I know searching the internet isn't always a good thing, however, when reading through that link, the following does indeed sound like what I am experiencing:

START QUOTE

What are the symptoms of Peyronie’s disease?

Peyronie’s disease begins as a small swelling or inflammation, which hardens into a lump on the upper or lower side of the penis. It usually develops over time, but sometimes appears very quickly.

In most cases, you can feel a hard lump at the point where the penis curves.

Peyronie’s can be painful, reduce flexibility, and in most cases will shorten or create a bend in the penis when it’s erect. In some cases, the shape of the penis changes so that there’s an hourglass deformity or constriction to one side.

In the early stages, you might experience pain when getting an erection. In mild cases, where the lump does not cause the penis to bend very much or at all, it will only have a minor effect on how you experience sexual intercourse.

However, moderate or severe Peyronie’s can make sexual intercourse impossible because of the shape of the penis, or problems with getting an erection. In some cases, the penis only becomes hard up to the area of the scar and stays flaccid (not erect) past that point.

You might notice Peyronie’s after an injury to the penis. People with Peyronie’s often describe hearing a loud ‘crack’, followed by pain and bruising, although in many cases you might not remember any injury happening. Usually this type of injury leads to swelling which becomes red and hot, and will heal by itself within a year. Sometimes, recovery takes longer, and scarring can happen.

END QUOTE.

I will say though that I experience NO pain whatsoever, both when not erect and when erect and all penis functions are 100% normal. It's really only the lumps (which are not even visible) which are the symptoms. My penis also does have a downwards bend in it, which has been present all my life but has posed no complications due to this (neither when going to the loo or nor when having sex).

This condition isn't also widely known with no firm answer as to what causes it - treatments also limited on the NHS. I haven't yet seen a GP as I need to call on the day for appointments so getting one is not easy but I am guessing I will be referred on to a more specialised dept.

I am not even sure if this is worth progressing if its posing me no problems....?

Hi, appreciate the response. I have also posted this on a different medical website and was advised that this probably wasn't a fracture:

START

While it is always best to be seen by your doctor, this does not sound like a penis fracture. Here is information on what types of symptoms a fracture would cause medicalnewstoday.com/articl.... Things like bleeding from penis, issues urinating or keeping an erection, extreme pain, etc. You clearly hurt yourself a bit but it doesn't sound like a fracture. If the symptom you are noticing continues, do see your doctor.

END.

As I have said before, I have no symptoms which would suggest a fracture...

Ok thanks. I think the first port of call would be my GP. I will try and call them for an appointment.

I think I have that too. Are you sure it was not there before?

beans6571 profile image

...no - wasn't there before. It's only appeared in the last 2 weeks. As my original post says - its causing no symptoms, isn't visible, and all penis functions are normal.

That’s interesting because mine is the same and I had a similar thing happen. It has not caused me any problems. Are you circumcised or uncircumcised?

beans6571 profile image
beans6571 in reply to At1012

Uncircumcised. Have you been to see a doctor for this ? If so, what did they say?

At1012 profile image
At1012 in reply to beans6571

I’m circumcised. I never went to a doctor, but I never heard a crack, I just saw slight bending, but I can’t say for sure that what happened had any effect at all. The reason I say this is because I have a remnant of the ridge band in this area, which is attached to my intact frenulum. I’m really sorry it happened to you. I would think that being uncircumcised, would decrease the chance of your penis bending because you have the extra skin for your penis to naturally glide, unless the foreskin is on the shorter side. How long is your foreskin while erect?

beans6571 in reply to At1012

...to be honest - not sure! Mine does bend also (it's been like this all my life but never stopped it from working normally!).

From what i have read online, it seems to be Peyronie's disease, which is more to do with the bending than the hard lumps, although, the article does say something about the lumps:

But - I have suffered NO swelling or inflammation and is not painful or reduces flexibility. It's literally just the 2 hard lumps on either side of the shaft (just before it bends downwards).

Oh, my penis does not curve at all

At1012 profile image

Also my circumcision was poorly done when I was an infant because I ended up with a phimotic looking ring, which sometimes causes this hour glass figure look to my penis as if the ridged band was never removed, which is strange. I have been doing Manuel foreskin restoration and a lot of the negative symptoms I experienced went away.

Also how long is your foreskin while erect?

beans6571 profile image
beans6571 in reply to At1012

...sorry - I'm not sure, I've never measured it!

At1012 profile image
At1012 in reply to beans6571

What I mean is that while flaccid, does the foreskin completely cover your flaccid penis or only partially?

beans6571 profile image
beans6571 in reply to At1012

It completely covers it. Are your lumps actually visible then? Mine are not and I only know they are there when I feel either side of the shaft (when flacid). They are not feelable when erect...

I have a feeling that if I went to the docs, they would just say that as there are no symptoms and functions are all normal, this is something that may or may not heal naturally. It sounds like some fluid has escaped a tube inside and has become hard but as its not posing any problems (no blood, npo pain, no swelling, no bruising, etc), it may disappear over time....

At1012 profile image
At1012 in reply to beans6571

It’s not visible, but if I press on the area, it feels like a balloon that will pop, but it Can be mistaken for other things as well. It’s almost like I can pop it lol. Does this sound similar to you?

beans6571 profile image
beans6571 in reply to At1012

...hmm - mine is more of a hard lump, it almost feels like a bone and certainly not something that I think I can pop!! Size wise, both are the same size (one on either side of shaft) and feel smaller than a garden pea!!

At1012 profile image
At1012 in reply to beans6571

mine Is right on the underside of my penis, right on and near the penal raphe line, but what’s interesting is that, it must be part of my remaining ridge band because now that I think back to my early childhood, I always had it and never knew what it was until recently. I always wondered whether that slight bend of my penis while erect caused any damage? I guess when that happens, it doesn’t cause any damage? I have no trouble getting an erection

At1012 profile image
At1012 in reply to beans6571

I know doctors always do that. It’s almost like they don’t want to get involved as long as it’s not bad enough lol.

Did you ever figure out what this was? I think I have this as well out of no where

Hi Really interesting reading your story. I’ve just had something very similar happen. Two weeks ago I became aware of two hard lumps in the shaft of my penis, one central and ball like, the other more off to the side and flat. Both felt quite hard.

I’m sure they are very recent.

I also came across Peyronies when googling and this reminded me of a incident a couple of weeks prior to their appearance again very similar to the one you described.

I was having sex with my wife when she moved awkwardly hurting me in the process, but like with you the pain subsided quickly and we carried on.

Did you ever get it checked out? It’s freaking me out to be honest.

Hi.

Unfortunately I did not get this checked out.

I still have the lumps but if I am honest, it doesn't really affect things down below. There is no pain or anything so I think I am just happy to leave things as they are.

From what I have read, it is caused by liquid which has escaped from one section of the penis to the other and has formed a hard plaque. The only way to remove this is via surgery - something I am not willing to have done so I am happy to leave things as they are.

Hello, I have the exact same symptoms or concern. Mine just appeared one morning. No sex injury. I have a Urologist appointment in a week, so I will share what is discussed. I noticed it around October 20th and was hoping it would just go away. Unfortunately, not the case.
