Foreskin and Diabetes

I am uncircumcised and was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I occasionally get fissures (cracks) in the very tip of my foreskin which makes it very difficult to retract my foreskin for cleaning. Anyone had this problem? Will I be required to have my foreskin circumcised?

What is your age? Circumcision is the way to go

69

I think it is a little early to be looking at circumcision. You might find that once your blood sugars are controlled that this stops - when there is less sugar in your urine. It is always good to talk to your doc about it. It may be as simple as moisturising.

I have an appointment with the doctor in two weeks.

Are you overweight can I ask? I only ask as type 2 can very often be reversed by regaining a ‘normal ‘ weight, thereby possibly reducing the likelihood of tears and the need for a circumcision.

20 pounds overweight and 69 y/o. difficult to loose weight.

in reply to uncutforeskin

I understand. I’m pushing 60 myself and know it’s not easy, but do not give up so easily. I tend to carry a big too much weight myself, but it CAN be shifted and controlled by watching what you eat (and easing back on the wine in my case!) in my experience Slimming World is the best and easiest regime to follow. Often diabetes is accompanied by other issues such as high blood pressure and I found that a loss of 10kg dramatically improved that too.

Yes. I have very HIGH B/P.

in reply to uncutforeskin

Give it a try. When you see the pounds coming off and the waist band loosening you will be glad you did. Slimming world was not as daunting as I thought it would be and once you have the books you will learn what to eat and what not - without going hungry. You owe it to yourself to give it a go. It can only help!

Hi. I am diabetic as well. I had a circumcision just over 5 weeks ago. It was needed because I had the same problem you are experiencing. I think it's necessary if it's reoccurent and persists. I was afraid at first but it was the right. Thing to do. Check my posts out for progress and reports.

Thank you for the pics. How old were you when cut? I am 69 and don't heal the best or the fastest.

Your age is not a issue sir..it's minor surgery and type 2 diabetes is easily curable ...I worked before in surgery section I'm local hospital as surgeon assistant and seen many people over 70 getting circumcised for the same reason ...

You need circumcision for sure ...fissure Everytime heals leaves you with scars tissue resulting more tightening of foreskin ..in future it may trouble you more through fissure healed scartissue and more tightness. At the age of you circumcision is possible and you can heal up Max in 45 days ...it's the only solution ...but take it as your last resort when no medicine works and in fissure usually medicines don't work ...notify me your cell condition and decision ,I can guide you further

Tightening of opening is a sure sign of yeast. Use Clotrimazole.

I am g2diabetic also and circumcision was also one of the recommendations,I have not looked back, now 5years,I was 66 at the time

I had the same thing. I did get circumcised are retracting the foreskin over my glans eventually became an issue due to the scaring from the fissures.

However at now nearly a year past my circumcision it's something I regret deeply. Keep your blood sugars under control and use a good quality moisturiser on your foreskin. When the fissures have healed use stretching exercises to expand your foreskin.

If the issue keeps repeating you may have to look at circumcision again. But it is a last resort and not the only option.

Hello Lowandtight, Thank you for your response. I currently am using hand cream to keep my foreskin moist and pliable. Thank you.

I was told to be careful what creams to use as some creams fed a yeast infection but in any case im in the Uk we probably have about 80 per cent of guys that are uncut in my case i had like 6 or 7 thrust infections now my doctor as put me on a list for a Frenuloplasty Op i haven't really found much info about this operation so am quite worried.

in reply to Dazla24a

Just to give you guys a update couldn't have that operation on the day because my foreskin became to tight so had to be cut because of my diabetes and to be honest as been abit of a nightmare healing.

Tryvusing applications of Clotrimazole. It sounds like yeast problems.

I used to get this mate, quite bad at times doctor said it was thrush due to high sugar.

How I stop it now is keeping my foreskin retracted over the glans as much as I can especially when peeing, also wipe and wash as often as possible.

hope this helps

Mike

Hi, I'm T2 diabetic and I used to get the same problem, its caused by sugar in the urine, thrush, how I deal with it is I keep my foreskin rolled back as if I was cut sort of self circumcised, and wash as often as possible.

I spoke with my doctor about this and he was ready for me to be cut, but seeing some of the jobs on here I wasn't very keen, but like I said I have sorted now, don't be in a rush to get cut, try what I said and see if it works for you.

Hello mikeski1956, Thank you for the response. Two years ago I was told by a doctor that I should seriously have my foreskin circumcised. He commented "It's not that painful." I currently am 69 y/o. I am thankful for this site as it has enlightened me as to some of the unsightly consequences of circumcision. I now am seeing a different doctor and am due for an exam in 3 weeks. Thanks again for the info.

I recently had a circumcision with great results! Had a great time at the hospital talking with the staff and relaxing. Bucky85 is an "intactavist" who puts up links to anti-circumcision web sites. They are part of the reason why I waited so long before having mine done. Whenever I did a google search, the anti-circumcision web sites were always at the top, so I was only reading about how bad it was to get circumcised. Then I found these sites with more accurate information, and they seemed to be based more in science. Circlist being the most neutral, but the other sites are useful too, although more favorable toward circumcision.

Hi M8, I'm 63 T2 diabetic, I have the same problem from time to time, and I know how you feel, I to went to doctor about this, we talked about getting cut, but didn't go down that road, what I do when I start getting the signs bit of itching small cracks appearing I smear my glans and foreskin with aloe vera Vaseline, could use any Vaseline, this stops the pee getting on the skin or glans this works for me, I just like that one, also when peeing I pull the foreskin back so as to not get any pee trapped under the foreskin, and wash it after every time I pee, I always have a small packet of wet wipes with me when out, I always clean my penis now regardless, and very rarely get thrush now, I also keep my foreskin retracted from the glans this also helps.

I have posted photos on here before and after photos. Hope this helps

Most men who have it done are very happy. It can solve many problems for men of all ages. I was so happy, I had a party the night of mine!

It's time to consider getting circumcised. Talk with your GP and go from there.

It's more than just a few medical doctors out there recommending circumcision for problems like phimosis.

Hello Bucky85, Thank you for the link. The photo in the link is very representative of my phimosis. I was told by a doctor that I should seriously consider having my foreskin circumcised. He gave me a script for "Circumcision" but no cream. I don't plan on seeing a urologist at the moment. My foreskin has been with too many years to be parting with it now. Thanks.

H, I'm 63, I've had the same problem for years now.

When I get it I use a cream from doctor, but also rub vasaline all over my glans and foreskin.

I also carry a small packet of wiped with me, so every time I pee I can clean my penis, and add more vasaline (I use the aloe Vera one) I also keep my foreskin retracted, sort of self circumcision I find this also helps.

Like you I take ages to heal and quite attached to my foreskin, plus the Mrs like playing with it, LOL.

My circumcision was done just 18 days ago, and it was a very happy operation. I couldn't be any happier now that I'm circumcised.

Sounds like you may have a yeast infection, easy to fix. See a Dr and get your A1c to normal levels will help in future.. I had that problem several years ago. Did not have to get circumcised and all is working fine now.

What doctor helped you I go to this doctor and he wants me to get cut and I’m like umm no I like my skin god gave it to me for a reason I just abused food and sugar and didn’t think this would happen lol

You probably have what I have it sucks I don’t have dry skin it’s tight and hard to pul back but you have to force it so dr gave me Nystatin cream 100,000 ups unit it helps a little and I don’t blame you not wanting to get circumcised At your age but try fungal creams for it use a Q tip to put the cream under the foreskin make sure you get it in the cuts of the head of penis you need it in the glands. Keep doing that for a few days till you can pull the skin back then wash the area with kind of warm water less warm or it burns a lil and no soap. And then dry it and put cream with hand get it in the glands. This is temporary fix only fixing your sugar level will help because sugar and warm creates fungi under the skin I been looking to get better cream. I don’t want to lose the skin and I don’t want to be sexless for 6 months of healing. I know there has to be better cream out there but try to keep your sugar level healthy or low so you won’t have this problem. Good luck and I’m 30 and I weight 260 and I love sugar but I have to cut back.

Hi, I am diabetic and I have suffered with phimosis and balanitis for over 3 months. Along with that, I have Urinary tract infection, with scarring and sores. After 3 courses of antibiotics and cortisone and antifungal creams, without a check up due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I finally got seen by a doctor that did a swab. The results came back on Friday and the antbiogram revealed the proper treatment and I must say that from day 3, I have finally managed to pull back my foreskin without sores or tightness. So be positive. Get yourself checked, wash the area constantly with lukewarm running water and get the right treatment. It might not be necessary to have a circumsition. Good luck

Diabetes can make balanitis more likely, especially if the blood sugar is poorly controlled. High blood sugar causes elevated amounts of sugar in the urine. Sugar-rich urine that dribbles on to the glans and under the foreskin provides a friendly environment for yeast and bacteria.

CutAt39

I lived with the problem for about 15 years. It will progress to phimosis, which is a tighter foreskin and more sensitive glans. I recently got circumcised to solve this.
