I'm back to 10k distance!! I managed to get a long run in on Sunday, while listening to motivational podcasts (I've just started doing this and its a gamechanger!)

I have an appointment to have half of the splint off my teeth tomorrow, the other half needs to stay in place for another few weeks as the damage to that tooth was worse.

I seem to have found a new gear since the accident, my focus and motivation seem to be through the roof. Had I not become a runner, I don't think I'd have coped with things as well as I am. Over the course of three marathons, I've discovered I am more resilient that I ever thought possible, and that's carried over to other parts of my life. I'm definitely going to have a lot more issues, setbacks and mental health wobbles over my teeth, but I know I can push through it. The comeback is stronger than the setback.

Fantastic, well done you, recognising how much running helps and getting out there, it's good you have healed enough to run

Yeah, it definitely helped being able to run as it's got my brain in gear again. I've got to pick up my third star this year, so that's my focus!

That’s great news! I’m really pleased for you 👍

I do believe that running builds our resilience and coping abilities in other areas of our lives. Such a find 🥰

As long as I have my legs and can run, then I can get through pretty much anything!

I read your recent posts, but somehow didn't reply. I am sorry. What a lot you have been through and to read how you have progressed is so, so good. Well done to you! Brilliant! Clearly there will be more hurdles but what a mantra, 'The comeback is stronger than the setback.' Wow! That really is something. 🏃🏻‍♂️

Thank you 😊 Yeah I love that saying, it's definitely true! The podcasts I've been listening to also centre around bad things happening and how that's where we grow and learn. Ideally I'd have chosen a different setback to this, but I'll work with the hand I've been dealt 😂

Is it particular series of podcasts? I'd be interested to listen to them. I really enjoy listening to podcasts on my runs. Life Changing and some of the Lives Less Ordinary among many others. Those are both on BBC Sounds.

The ones I've been listening to are quite colourful in their use of language! Its called the *ss-breaking motivation.

What a great post! You are doing brilliantly and well done on getting back to 10k too! You are so right about the resilience running gives us! 🙂💪

It's a confidence boost for sure. I'm supposed to be doing the 10 miles thing on here, not sure if I'm going to manage that but we will see.

Glad to hear this James. All headed in the right direction; issues to come but your strength will see you through 👍

Cheers! I'm sure I won't be so confident when I have to have implants put in, but it'll be ok. I'm going to make this experience into something positive no matter what

I had a tooth out three weeks ago; physio’s thumb boring into the back of my knee was far more painful! You will deal with this when it happens.👍

Exactly that, just got to come back stronger than before! I just had half the splint off, so that's a small improvement. Feels nice not having metal digging into my lip!

My husband (donkeys years ago) had some of his his top teeth “chained” together and glued as they’d been dislodged in an accident. They were great afterwards and have been fine until yesterday when he lost one eating his lunch 😁. He can’t get a dentist appointment til next Tuesday 🤭

Thank you! I don't know how resilient I'll be when I have to have the root canal they think I need but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it 😂

Anything to do with teeth is the worst thing imaginable for me so if I can push through this then I'll be pretty pleased with myself

What a lovely, positive post James! Love it! So glad you are finding a way through this. What would we do without running?

Are you doing a 16 week plan for Berlin? Mine starts a month today and I can’t wait! Sounds like you’ll be leaving me for dust at that start line 💪💪💪

Lookslikejames profile image
LookslikejamesMarathon in reply to TailChaser

I've not even given my plan any thought yet! I should probably have a think. And I highly doubt it, even at the best of times my long distance running is lacklustre! I'll just be happy if I make it to the start line to be honest
