Yes, you can. The meds control the disease to some extent but not completely and flees will occur regardless. It is a matter then of deciding what to do in each case, whether to add a new drug short term, change treatment course or dosage, or just leave it to calm down on its own. Your rheumatologist is best to advise here.

I'm in a flare now. I have been (and still am) on Plaquenil and was not doing badly but for some reason it kicked off again, so I am on 3 week course of Prednisolone now hoping that it will calm the flare. This is the nature of this disease, v unpredictable.

Sometimes it can be something as a simple cold or stress that can bring on a flare, sometimes we never know what causes it and Purple top is right, the meds suppress the illness but as yet there isn't any cure. Try and rest and take care - hope you recover soon :)

That definitely makes sense - although I'm on methotrexate and placquenil I find the intensity of the flares is reduced but it's as though I can still feel it happening but it is being controlled better. It also does not seem to go on for as long. Whereas before I never knew when one flare was ending and another starting. Hope this makes sense too.

Good ? Uzi41, thanks. And thanks, everyone, for the great replies. seems to me this is the best, most clear & concise set of replies yet on forum to this tricky ?. My experience since my sle was diagnosed 2+ yrs ago (and i was put on plaquenil,) totally agrees with what you've posted above

Possibly it would be better if I started a new ?, cause i'm about to go off a bit sideways.....but my ? sort of follows on from what you're posting here, so uzi41 I hope you don't mind if i say: am hoping anyone interested will find my ? And post responses

Thanx folks for replying, i dont think i realise when one flare is staring or finishing at the moment either. Reading the side effects to the meds is scarey, dont know what is worse side efects or living with lupus....anyway..... one day at a time.....hugs..Uzi.xxx
