Hi, B..,

You may find information about a diet called LCHF on the web. I don't have Db, so no experience of this myself - but have seen very many postings that this diet is helpful to many diabetics. As I understand it, Low Carb High Fat, is cutting out grain (bread, rice and pasta), sugar (particularly synthetic!) and starch (potatoes). The fat should be meat, eggs, butter, olive oil, coconut oil, full cream, whole milk etc (no margarines, omega 6 oils or 'light' products).

I got interested in this diet recently, as grain, sugar and starch are said to cause inflammation in the body - so decided to try it out for a while. I have started to cut down on bread (doing this one step at a time ..am down to one slice a day) and have no rice and no pasta at all. Surprisingly, I don't miss it, as I feel better already after just a few weeks. Instead of potatoes, I have sweet potatoes. Sugar is a no-no - but enjoy a piece of dark chocolate after a meal. I have very little fruit (as raise glucose levels and thus risk of inflammation..) - prefer vegetables. I plan to keep this going for as long as I feel well from it. I hope you find a diet that suits your situation. Good luck! xxx :)

We are all so different that we need to find the diet that suits us.

I would not give my diet a name, but I use muscle testing to find out what I can eat and keep relatively fit on.

I started it when I was seriously ill and although my body changes the requirements all the time (because our bodies are changing all the time), it sticks relatively to the same foods, which are mainly of protein either plant origin or a little fish. I do eat some fruit because I feel the vitamin C and other nutrients are advantageous to my metabolism.

I eat no grains, dairy or potatoes and even sweet potatoes are too sweet and starchy for me and my inflammatory problems. Tomatoes, too, are an avoid for me.

I would not suggest to anyone that they follow my diet because I don't know the dietary requirements of any one else and we are all different.

The advice I would give is to get to know your own body and listen to what it tells you it needs.
