ive only had it in the hospital physio when certain joints are a problem but found for that joint it was usually very good. and would then allow me to do the exercises the physio precribed.

Yes I have had a lot of Acupuncture in the past, I really believe in it. I had for the overall feeling of well being. I was paying privately but it can be costly. I did have some on the NHS for my neck and I know it helped so worth a try. Good luck just go on a reccommendation.

Really interested in your thoughts on this as my Consultant recommended it but NHS wouldn't reply to it.

Hi

I was lucky to receive a 6 week session of acupuncture while I was under a consultant at a pain management clinic. I have SLE lupus and my Rhumy referred me to a pain clinic, looking at alternative ways of managing the joint pain- while not debilitating gets very wearing after 8 years- anyhow I really enjoyed the sessions- felt very relaxed and "light" afterwards, but had no real measurable effect on my pain levels. I have also tried reflexology, which again makes me very relaxed and sends me to sleep!

Being in pain makes you tense up, re-learning the ability to relax, through alternative therapies, mediation, even taking the time for a long soak in the bath, all helps

I was refered to pain clinic by my reumy and I can say it worked great on some things but not so great on others. Direct point of pain works really great and so did the ones in my scalp and forhead for headaches, I had had a headache for about 3 months with no rebait until i looked by a catipillar with pins on my forhead and on top and over m head. We tried for the hot sweats but no luck after a few tries.

I would definately recomend trying and maybe a tens machine as well again for point of pain as it can be used to stop/help pain as well as guard against it.

Maybe ask your physio for a referal, it might be cheaper than just using the phone book but also ou have some idea how good they are. Another idea would be to look for a local uni that might need patiens for training.

Good luck and hope you find somebody. Best wishes Helen
