What will determine my longevity
It is natural to worry about this, especially when we feel low, anxious and/or very unwell. We can see some and hear some pretty horrific stories too, but please allow me to offer some words of reassurance.
While Lupus can be a killer, it can also be mild (which I take to mean, relitatively few symptoms or symptom free ??) and the outlook for most people is very good. Many here, including myself, have had Lupus from a young age and we are still here to tell the tale.
I believe that having a diagnosis of Lupus is just the first step towards improving or regaining our health and because we all have our unique set of symptoms and it can take time for us and even our doctors to understand what our body is doing. We know there is no known cure for Lupus, but we also know, through academic research, that "most peiple who have the condtion can look forward to having a relatively normal life span" Ref: Holden & Hughes, Talking About Lupus (2004).
I hope this helps and things improve for you soon.

When I was diagnosed with Lupus I asked if it was life threatening as I'd never heard of it, and was told no Had to learn to adjust and pace myself but I'm not expecting to die any time soon and neither should you xxx
I.m 66 and still going strong, please take the advice from the above comments
and forget about dying and start living.
I was told, when finally correctly, diagnosed that left untreated I had 18 months left to live!! Nearly 4 years later, and now on the correct medication, I am told that I could live quite a long life. It will probably not be the Lupus that kills me, but something else due to my compromised immune system.
So keep taking your Meds, ensure that you have regular check-ups and if you are not happy with your medical professional then ask to see another one. I did and that was how I was correctly diagnosed.
Stay positive and keep well.
The way I look at it is the only thing certain in this life is that we will all die. Some sooner than others, so for me the best thing to do is live, love and smile through the pain ... Do not fear what we can not change , but prepare your mind and soul always to be in a good place when the inevitable visits us and be at peace.
