Hi catb18,

Sarcoidosis is an autoimmune condition. In sarcoidosis, commonly referred to simply as 'sarcoid', areas of inflammation called granulomas may appear on the body. Any part of the body can be affected but the most commonly affected areas are the lungs, skin, eyes and lymph nodes. One area alone may be affected, or many at once.

If you'd like more help or advice on Sarcoidosis you casn contact The British Lung Foundation lunguk.org/

As for a connection with lupus - there actually tends to be a negative association between lupus and sarcoidosis. This means that generally, having lupus decreases your chances of developing sarcoidosis.

I hope this helps.

hiya paul,

thanks for that,yh it does help but my mum was unfortunate to have both lupus and sarcoidosis along with non hodgkins lymphoma, she was diagnosed with all three more or less at the same time.

That is very unfortunate.

I'm glad that I could help.

Hi, I was diagnosed with SLE and Fibromyalgia in 2007. I had a lump removed from my top lip and the results came back as Sarcoidosis, without realising I had been having symptoms of this for about 8 months i.e pain on breathing and not being able to take deep breaths, I had thought that it was part of SLE. I have been refered to the lung specialist who do x-rays and a CT scan. They say on most occasions that you can not have SLE and sarciod at the same time but actually in a few cases you can. Sarcoid can appear in a few different guises and that depends on whch specialist you see. I am going back in December for my results so its a waiting game at the moment.

Hope that helps

Helen
