Hi..Ihave wondered about this also.i have never found a product that good that it covers up the scarring or the aweful spots as i call them!I do find through out the summer months i feel brave enough to show flesh lol,,that a spray tan at the local salon does help hide it.Good luck, and all the best.

Yes definitely a spray tan. Couldn't agree more! And the foundations that claim to last 24hrs as they have good coverage without looking fake.

Hi, I had a real problem with the butterfly rash across my face a couple of years back and got really paranoid about it. I asked the Rheumatology nurse and she advised The Red Cross camouflage make-up which you can get on prescription. You go for a meeting and they match up the right tone to your skin colour. It can be put on pretty thick so maybe good enough for scarring? I haven't needed it since starting Hydroxy so it's up in the loft somewhere but I could find out the name if you're interested :)

Hey :0),

Thank you very much for your advice :0), i will look into that asap!

Is it a concealer? (ie, something you can just put on the lesions) ?

I'm glad you haven't had to use it since the Hydroxy :0).

Thank you VERY much for the offer, but to save you going out of your way, i'll research it, & then, if no joy, i may take you up on the offer of finding out the name :0).

x

That's ok :)

Yes it should be pretty easy to find.. There may be better ones now or ones more suited to your skin

And yes the one I used went straight on top and then needed a powder on top to set it.

Hope you find what you're looking for :)

Hi Dawn :0), thank you for your answer :).

I'm not a 'vain' person, (i've not covered up my lesions at al,l other than on nights out), but do feel self conscious at times & am concerned that my appearance may hinder possible future employment opportunities (i know it shouldn't, but it can, especially when working with/for the public!).

Summer is the worst for me, as i love the sun, always have, but can't go 'bare faced' anymore...i've tried tanning products, but find that when my 'outbreaks' are bad, any self tanning product makes the lesions look a lot worse....

Thank you, & dito! :0).

I'll let you know if i find a great product! :0) x

stay away from tanning products and use sun block everyday, even on cloudy days. Try Dermablend cover up.

P.s also use St Tropez as there is noway i can go out in the sun for long,,the sun hates me now,,its hard because before dle i loved to go out in the sunshine uncovered,,now chance of that again!:( Im amazed you tolerate the sun with dle

Hi, I am very fortunate my younger sister is in the beauty industry, I have tried many products as my facial skin has always been extremely sensitive. I have now settled on Laura Mercier products, they do a wonderful camoflage concealer and other products. Have a look on the website it will also give the details for stockists in your area. It seems expensive but very worth it for piece of mind etc and the makeup goes a long way. If you pop into a counter near you they will run through the products and be able to do a make over for you, any samples to try. If you need to ask any further questions then let me know. Regards Chrissy x

I found the best makeup to cover. Its called nicole paxton makeup and was developed by a girl that has lupus. The pudding foundation really fills in the scars and covers redness. . Use a sponge to apply and use circular pats for best coverage. I am very pale so i use a little bronzing powder over which also gives a little healthy glow. Her website is not taking orders due to a manufacturing change but check out a compamy called Shen. They are located in New York but they ship everywhere i believe. The girl that owns the store is just lovely and even donated some cosmetics for a fundraiser that we raffled off for a baby boy woth EoE (another AI disease). my arms are bad too so she also reccomended body cover that worked wonders. I will post the website in a few. .

Smiler1, yes try Dermablend. Go to a professional or a makeup counter in a large department store and ask for it. It takes practice to master but you can do it. I'm very dark skinned with pink patches but to look at me on a good day you wouldn't know it. Best of luck to you and God Bless.

I don't have the rash, but have lost big patches of pigment on my face and body. (Like the star that is no longer with us, Michael Jackson.)

My face has no pigment of any kind left the dermatologist says. I must use SPF 50 (yes. 50) or higher everyday that I am outside. Aveeno makes a sunscreen for babies that works very well and that doesn't irritate.

Most makeups or coverups are just too dark on my ultra pale skin.. I am lucky in that I have regulariy relatively pale skin to begin with. I still get tan even with the sunscreen on my arms in summer. That is when the white patches are particularily noticeable. I've just started to get whitepatches on my legs and feet . Thankfully hose helps, ,but I still like to wear shorts. I'm not so vain as to want to sweat to death! That's not particularly flattering either!

I wear MAC foundation on my face. I use the very lightest that is made and blend it well.

There is also a website for people witj ultralight skin., I think it's called For Redheads Only. My mom was a redhead. I have naturally blonde hair, not red, but did get the light skin from her. I am greatful that I can use any makeup as my skin is very sensitive.

I would say to try the MAC. It is hypoallergenic. Go to a makeup counter that carries MAC and ask the person behind the counter what shade she recommends. That way you can try it before you make a purchase for something you don't want. If you would rather pick out the shade yourself try Almay or Physicians Prescription.. (I no longer can use it as it doesn't come light enough for me.)

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

First, don't use any face cleaning or face cream with alcohol or mint on it. They trick with lesson flares. Second, I use mild soap to clean, then moisture cream and moisture surge from Clinique at night. In the morning I put on sun block +40 om my face and color foundation also constant sun block on top of the lessons also from Clinique. They seem to be very good on my face. But immune system and allergic on everyone is different. You just have to give it a try, you will find the one work for you.
