I don't think there's a medication that will completely stop your flairs.

I took plaquenil for a while and it helped to reduce the duration/severity of the flairs, but I still had them. Have patience and don't stop taking them! :D

Both these drugs can take up to 3 months to begin to work. Have you been on them long copdber? Plaqenil didn't stop my flare ups, but did ease some of the symptoms. It might also be worth checking what brand you have, as there are many posts on here about adverse reaction to a cheaper brand.

There are many possible triggers for a flare, & as lupus sufferers we are all different. So it's worth taking some time to think about other possible causes. Hope yo start to feel better soon. X

Been taking plaquenil for some 13 years now - seems to reduce the flairs but doesn't stop them. Personally I find that symptoms are always changing in a very subtle way. Main thing is to try to maintain a positive attitude - sometimes easier said than done - pir8

Thanks for taking the time to reply I'm taking Plaquenil for 4 years the Imuran (Azathioprine sp)was added during the summer. I do feel better today I did come up with the malar rash which is a sure sign that a flair is on the way but as I said I feel better today and the rash is going down. Maybe the Imuran is working.

I do know some people who can't take plaquenil I think they can take something quite simular.

When you say 'Flare up's' what kind kind of reactions are you having as i am also taking Plaquenil?

Hi chucch, it's mostly my skin that's acting up I got a dry red almost scaly rash on my cheeks. I used a steroid cream that I had gotten from my gp thinking it would clear it up. It did help but didn't clear it up completely. Yesterday I developed small red dots around my eyes and today there are more dots than yesterday. I feel fine I don't understand it.
