Has anyone found citalipram helped their condition? hope to reduce as been on 20mg a day for 2 years worried this will make condition worse.

I was only recently diagnosed despite various consultants pondering over condition for 4 years. Also taking amtriptiline for shoulder arm and hand pain, headaches and to help me sleep.

Hey Alison, I assume that you are taking Citalopram for depression? I am on 40mg myself as I do get very depressed and have alternating moods almost constantly. They do help with my depression and I know that I need to stay on them because as soon as I stop taking them I become very low. This is the same for all antidepressants I have previously been on including prozac/fluoxetine and I can't remember the rest. I honestly see no problem in staying on this medication. However, if you feel that you are ready to come off it then I would definitely go and discuss it with your GP.

I am on 60mgs of citalopram daily and have been for about 4 years, although it is an anti-depressant it is also used as a neuro suppressor to block the transmission of pain and I have found it to be effective and I have had no ill effects.

Hi Alyson

I have been on 40mg Citalopram for 3years now and 50gm Amitriptyline at bedtime for approx 7 years now and I haven't had any problems with them at all. However, if you do feel they are affecting you in any way I suggest that you let your Rheumatologist know so that they can put you on another drug that suits you. xxx
